Hey I was playing poker last night and the man with the least chips went all in. Everyone called except when it got to me I raised the pot. But they said that in texas hold'em I could only match the low mans chips. I the told them that they could still put in more moneybut if the low man won he only takes the money that everybody matched equal to his bet and the rest of the money is still up for grabs. They said they never saw that on the world poker tour championships. Am i correct or are they???

thank you

Yah, a side pot is created that the short stack is no longer in contention for. Each player can still commit more chips to the side pot and if a player folds, they lose their stake in the main pot as well.

Techinically, I suppose you CAN, but it serves no real purpose unless there is still someone left to act behind you and you want to push that person out of the pot.

I disagree with montimus, there are plenty of times you might want to do this, like if you have AA and want to win more or if you want to fold out some of the people who've already called the all in to increase your own chance of winning. (I know AA isn't guranteed to win 5-way etc etc but you know what i mean)

Everyone except for the person that was all in was still left to act behind him, after he raised, since he said that everyone had called the previous all in raise from the small stack. The other players then should have had to decide whether to call the reraise. Then all the extra money from the reraise would obviously go into a side pot.
