Went to Atlantic City for a brief road trip. Caught some of the final table of the US Poker Championship. I will be on ESPN in Jan or Feb 2005 (at least during the very beginning of the brodcast). I left after an hour or 2.
They played 70min. rounds. It was a bunch of non-famous players at the final table. John D'Agostiono (he played Phil Ivey heads up in live broadcast this year at the Turning Stone event broadcast by Fox Sports) came in with a huge chip lead of 1.5 million, there was like 3.5 million in play. He then proceeded to give it away by running into AA a few times when his lower pokets didn't hold up.
I have to say the live play is pretty boring compared to what you see on TV. Everyone was super tight and it went to a flop only about every 6 or 7 hands, which is very, very different that what you see on TV. Overall, an interesting trip.
Played a little 5/10 limit but didn't catch many cards or hit many flops and lost about $40. Wish I had more time as the play was very weak/loose. |
