Need some help with this one, i was on a sick run of cards before this hand (2 A-high flushes, KK in the BB).. stacked up once and won 2 $2.5 pots, is he just fighting back at the bully? my guess: no -- his hand QQ+?, AQ? i dont think 88 warrants a reraise preflop with this guy, idk

jw what you guys think.. was i too nitty? fold preflop? raise more preflop?

I know many will disagree with me, but I don't like to lead into the preflop raiser when I hit the flop like this.

Preflop is fine, I don't like to 4bet ace high oop either. This is most likely QQ, and if it is, good job leading and folding...lol

If he was making a move, the only way to find out is to stack this hand, which isn't a bad idea because you hit the flop you wanted. On the other hand, would AJ do this? maybe KK? nah.

I think on second thought, the lead was good. This thread has just changed the way I play poker.

Thx OP.

I have to agree but just on an AQx board. Alot of the times though people are just going to call this flop if you're beaten though so this is probably a very rare hand.

This is only 4 handed though so 4 betting certainly wouldn't be bad esp. given the image of hero.

meh, I like 4betting PF here.

Think about it this way, if you both have AK here and you 4bet shove, you will never lose the pot. If you only call the 3bet villain will never lose the pot. We're really only worried about AA/KK here and it's 4handed and he's OTB, I don't mind 4bet shoving PF.

yeah u r right regarding the 4 handed 4 bet preflop. I didn't take into consideration position nor # of players.

I suck at poker.

Well I probably didn't adjust for the stakes though so we both are teh suck. Not sure about $10nl players 3betting frequencies really but we're in decent shape against a 4handed 3popping range. I guess the problem then becomes what we are against a 4bet shove's calling range. We're never getting QQ+ to fold, but how much equity do we gain by getting AK/TT/JJ to fold? Here's a TAGG's 3betting range:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 50.825% 40.51% 10.32% 374539788 95413566.00 { TT+, AQs+, AQo+ }
Hand 1: 49.175% 38.86% 10.32% 359277240 95413566.00 { AKo }

All I know is that there's one hand I play really fast all the time and it's AK. It's value isn't in taking flops OOP in 3bet pots. I believe it's value is in shoving PF and balancing your 4bet shove range--i.e-getting TT-QQ to look you us up more. Once again though, this is probably way too in-depth for $10nl but who says we're not allowed to think deeply about hands anyways?

I don't think shoving AK preflop to balance the calling ranges of our villains is a good idea, without considering stack sizes.

I'll call shoves or shove 30bb all day every day against shorties with AKo, but my range in this sitch decreases as the bb's involved increases.

I like how you mentioned 10nl here again tho, this does increase my range in all sitchiations.
