This whole thing is a big cluster fuck. But really not a ton of media coverage. So this is my take on the situation.

Georgia is like pretty wrong for attacking South Ossetia, I mean on one hand they did not want South Ossetia to secede on the other kind of a dick move to attack them violence isn't the answer ya know?

South Ossetia they should be able to be independent if they want I guess. But I dunno enough to really comment on it (not that that will not stop me from commenting on the rest of this!)

Russia I understand trying to defend your peoples, but I think they took it a little to far they are bombing the shit outa all of Georgia and not just were Georgia attacked South Ossetia.

America, well Russia is pissed at us for helping Georgia soldiers get from Iraq or Afghanistan back to Georgia, but I mean Georgia is kinda getting its shit pushed in by Russia so it is pretty understandable that we are shuttling them home to help. But America is all running its mouth on Russia because we like Georgia for some reason. Even though our guy invaded another country (yay American hypocrisy we are good at that)

So pretty much everyone is in the wrong here. One wrong land slided into like 4 more wrongs.

WW3 IMO

There are many WW3 situations I'm following relatively closely

India vs Pakistan
Israel (featuring somehow the USA) vs Palestine and the Rest of the Arab World
Russia vs Georgia vs South Ossetia
Iran vs USA
North Korea (featuring Russia & China) vs USA

Would you take measures to avoid a draft if one was put in place in the USA?

Depends on the circumstances. Something like WW2 I might join up. Something like the current war I would swim the Detroit river to Canada.

NATO should just come to Georgia's defense and Russia will back off. They're just attacking a small country because they think they can get away with it.

It's because they're just about the only legitimate democracy in the former Soviet bloc. This is our chance to show whether we really care about promoting democracy in the Middle East. I'll be really upset if the US and Europe stand on the sidelines here.

I knew a chick from Georgia. She was a foreign exchange student. She got sent back because her host family caught her smoking cigarettes and thought this was just an abomination.

I hope shes still alive. She was cool.

Well it looked like this was over but now it seems like it is just beginning.

It took Russia like 2 days to invade and it is going to take them 2 weeks to withdraw? lol

I teach 11th grade American History.

Today, no shit, I had a kid come up and ask me why "The United States hadn't retaliated against Russia for bombing Georgia." I gave him my answer and he gave me a really confused look and said, "That just doesn't seem like us. Russia is bombing the United States, I mean, even though it is just the state of Georgia.....it just seems like we should do something about that, like we should nuke 'em or something."

I about fell down on the floor because the kid was dead serious. He actually thought the state of Georgia, the Peach State, was under attack.

Holy fuck.

(P.S. And yes, I did see the thread where a similar thing happened on another forum and somebody posted it....I didn't think people could be that dumb but apparently they're out there. And they go to my school.)

On the surface, sure. But oil keeps rearing it's black head in all of this as well.

Georpia use to be part of Russia, they broke away. Ossetia use to be part of Georgia they broke away. Georgia invaded Ossetia to take it back, then Russia invaded Georgia because they are BFFs with Ossetia. But Russia went a little over board and fucked up Georgia pretty bad. America likes Georgia so we went Russia outa Georgia.

this is exactly what the beginning of WW3 will look like. a bit moreso than issues with the middle east and korea. the reason is that a great way for huge wars to start is due to alliances. itty bitty country attacks itty bitty country, world power comes to defend, different world power comes to defend against other world power = WW3.

whereas it is more likely that nobody huge would come to the defense of iran.

also imo nobody hates US more than russia. the reason for this is that russia is second place and has been for a long time.

and i cant get drafted due to disability woot
