| elitemob wrote: | Well, I'd like to write down a few things in retrospect of the SnG experiment. I have to admit I was pretty sad that I embarrassed myself like that with the last call. I know I shouldn't be but I can'T help it I knew that everyone would be much better than me but well, I think I secretly hoped I wouldn't end up last place. I suppose I could have done it better, even with my limited skills. But all in all it was pretty interresting to watch the whole rest of the tournament for me, I've learned a lot just by getting an impression how good players play SnGs. I also had the idea of starting a "from a beginner to the beginners" thread where I'll compile all those important things I've learned over the past 14 days. Additionally I'll let you know when I've won my first SnG *laughs* To build my bankroll I'll obviously stick to the cash tables for now. In any case, it was fun and I'm glad I could join you, gg to all of us I'm really looking forward to the discussion. |
| bjsaust wrote: | | Closing Thoughts - Well, interesting game. Yes there was more 3-betting and restealing than usual, however I think the flavor of this game was the unusual amount of post-flop poker going on. Could be the players with more cash ring experience, or just the opportunity folks saw to exploit a standard sng players weaknesses. Myself: well, my adjustment plan didnt work. I think I'd have gone further and done better by sticking to my straight SnG game. The hands that lost me money (and the tourney) were the ones when I tried to get tricky beyond my normal game. Fascinating game though, I've VERY interested to see the complete posting of hole cards for this tournament. |
| Skeeno wrote: | | Overall really enjoyed it, I can't say I played all that great and there's deffo several things I need to look at, but the standard of play was so far and beyond better than I have been playing made life tricky. Props to kmind who really played well and I thought was the best player at the table | |

hand 142: Yeah, taipan I really thought you wanted action but I was hoping for a coinflip so I just shoved over.
hand 146: I just checked turn/river hoping for him to bet, knew I was good.
hand 148: Due to recent hands I am happy to get my A high in here.
Closing comments: Really appreciate you all setting this up and allowing me to play. I think this type of thing will help tremendously for everyone. Everyone seemed to play very well for the most part. Definitely helps when you win 2 coinflips. Thanks for the kind compliment, skeeno, I just got the cards at the perfect times. You were a hassle to be HU with, much props with your aggro. play. I hope to be part of this again and hope everyone plays in the FTR Gauntlet next season. |

This was probably the most interesting experiment I've been a part of. Lots of 2nd and 3rd level thinking going on. Seeing inside skeeno and kminds minds in particular was fascinating. They really do play the player a lot more than the cards.
Something I found interesting, and could have changed the way the game played a lot, was that both those two players saw standard SnG PF raises as "basically min-raises" and played them as such. In a sense they saw weakness where there really wasnt, but by playing the hands that way were able to take a lot of hands away where they were 2nd best.
Not sure if theres much we can take away from that for our normal games, but its definately worth thinking hard about some of the things this experiment showed us. |
