the best thing in mixed games is to know which are your worse games and play those very tight and straightforward to have the least leaks, pushing thinner edges on your best games
I do best in limit, O8 and Stud hi. Mediocre in Razz, and bad in Stud8. Thus i tighten up considerably i the last 2.
Most players will play too loose for their own good in their worse games, not recognizing they're -EV trying to outplay better players there. That's where a lot of money comes from in mixed games. |

agreed mixed games......THAT DONT DO HUDS YET....are where its at. i have dabbled with small stakes horse cash, and the play is awful. i suck, too. but, its fun, and i seem to be holding my own. one HUGE benefit to this forum, imo, is that we are deciphering limit situations and i think the majority of our mixed game villains are NL people. therefore, coupled with their ignorance of the games' nuances, i think they also take hands WAY too far because its "one more bet, not 25bb's on the river." not that they are wrong when they get that far...there are some huge pots by the last card. it's the peeling on 4th street and 5th that is committing them.
anyway, made well over 100 bb's at cake in 3k hands w/ $30 in RB. stars was less profitable. i was well up at the 25/50c games (both FR and 6max), up at 50/1 FR, and down a nice chunk at 50/1 6max. and, not a lot of hands there, either. prolly about 2500.
so, my sample sizes dont mean shit.
i am going to try and hit another $30 in RB in october, but i will also try and use spare time to see if i cant hit 8k hands at stars for silver....maybe get that puny $50 Bonus cranking.
but, HORSE has me hooked, and will undoubtedly take away from some of my focus.
side note to fishy horse games...i saw Barry Greenstein sit in with $4000 at a horse table the other night. he sank to 2500, and in the next 15 minutes made over 8k with two huge scoops and another nice pot. must be nice. |
