OP asked for good books to read, not use as kindling. Honest mistake.

Good books

beginners - Sklansky Theory of Poker
- Hellmuth - many will roll their eyes, but among the many pages of this "Phil is great" book are some basic guidelines for players just starting off.
Intermediate - Super System 1 and 11 - good survey books on various games.
- Dan Harrington - books one and two. Good technical deiscusion on the game.
- Sklansky - Holdem-em for Advanced Players

If you read the above, you will have a good general knowledge of poker games.

I haven't read it, but Collin Moshman wrote a book on Sit N Go Strategy. I've heard a lot of good things about it. I guess this doesn't really answer your question though. The HU section in HOH Vol. II is very good, but I haven't read Kill Everyone. So again, guess I'm not very useful lol.
