Soupie has a post in which he explains to consider all factors upon making a decision. He posted a list of "Fishsticks questions to ask yourself", when faced with a raise. This list proved to be very useful, yet I turned the list into a simplistic statement to consider commonly ignored factors involved in making a correct decision.

Preflop- Responding to a raise behind you

EX- When playing an SNG/MTT, a situation might occur in which you are reraised preflop. I certainly want to make a well thought out decision, because reraises usually invovle a fair portion of my chips. The outline to a well thought out decision lies with in the phrase....

Quote:

Position, Position, Agression, Agression.

Opponents Position
My position
Opponents Agression
My agression

Lets take a look at this more closely...

Opponents Position- How many people were left to act upon his reraise. The more people left to act in the pot indicates a stronger hand that your opponent could be holding.

My position- If I call his reraise. Who will have position after the flop? EX-If my opponent was in the blinds, I will now have more information regarding his hand on the flop since he will act first.

Opponents Agression- Is my opponent conservative, aggressive or a complete maniac? You can play weaker hands against agressive/maniac players, in which you would have folded with conservative players.

My agression- How many pots have I won? How many did I take to show down? Is my table image conservative, agressive or maniac? The more hands i have played with out show down, the more people will want to challenge me. Therefore, I am going to need a strong hand to contend with my opponent.

Run this list through your mind. The outcome of the list should clearly lead you in making a correct decision.

These are all generic references, and many exceptions exist. Of course other factors exist like the strength of your hand, pot odds and chip stack. Yet, most players already incorporate those concepts in there decisions. Before you criticize this post as elementary blunder, realize that what comes naturally for one might be a revelation for another.

Good post. I'll keep this train of thought in mind.

Grrr I'm getting HOH1/2 eventually.
