I have just returned from a second trip to reno ( 1st was back in december) , and once again, had an excellent time!
I didnt play quite as much poker as last time, as this was our honeymoon trip ( my wife would have not been too happy if I played poker the whole time..lol) , but I did manage to squeeze in a bit .
I played again at Circus Circus, where I played mostly last trip- and did very well. I played two tourneys: the 11am "shoot out" for 20$- This tourney ends after 1 hour and the top 3 stacks at the end of the hour are awarded the prize money ( 50% 30% 20%). I busted rather early in this one when a turned Q high flush ran into the nut flush ( I was somewhat short stacked and that was it for me).
The next night I played in a 30$ rebuy tourney, also at Circus Circus, and ran alot better. It was a pretty small field, 33 entrants I think- and full of donks/inexperienced players. I had some big hands hold up thoughout, AK vs AT, QQ vs AJ and 55, and cruised pretty easily to the final 4. . After #4 short stack busted, I found myself ITM with the chip lead. Shortly after I busted the 3rd place guy when I made a steal move with K6o, he calls off maybe 1/3 of his stack with nothing, I make a c bet and he pushes, raising me only slightly- with air! I of course call and my K high wins and now I'm heads up. after about 40 min of battling back and forth, we agreed to chop with our stacks about even and the blinds insanely high- So I walked out with abut 640$ . Not as much as the tournament usually pays, according to the locals, since enrollment was a little low that night, but still a respectable and enjoyable win!
I was pretty hungry and treated myself and new bride to a nice late night dinner ( it was around 11:30) with some champagne to celebrate. I gotta say, I love the Circus Circus poker room!!! It's an interesting mix of mostly tourist donks, and some real local characters- most of whom play pretty decently ( the dude I chopped with played quite well). Luckily I was able to run good and take this one down- Maybe next time I'll make it out of the Circus Circus room and report on some other tourneys!
Jamie
edit: I forgot to include, rocking the FTR hooded sweatshirt after 2nd break ( as C.C poker room was freezing!) |

Sounds like a fun trip and that you did pretty well.
The Circus Circus poker room is actually one of the poorer in Reno for cash games (the rake is a bit steeper than the other rooms).
If you want to stay in the CC-SilverLegacy-ElDorado complex, I would suggest playing the Eldorado next time. If you want to venture out a bit, try the Atlantis or the Grand Sierra Resort. |

| I will do that. I will also add reviews for Lucky Chances, Lucky Derby, and the Oaks as time permits. If you could add a category for Cache Creek, Casino San Pablo, and Auburn Poker Room, I will add a review for those as well. |

| No problem. Probably should edit the main review to include the lower buyin NLHE at some point. Casino San Pablo is a must add (I play there generally twice a week), imho, as is Cache Creek (although I have only played there a few times). Auburn Poker Room is a small club (smaller than Lucky Derby, if that gives anyone an idea) in between Sacramento and Reno that has an interesting scene. Thunder Valley Casino also recently announced that they will open a poker room. |
