hey eveyone,
Been reading as much as I could off this site and I think it has helped me a lot. I have been playing holdem in home games for about 6 months and just started to play online. I would do alright against my friends...break even mostly. It was for fun.
Now that I'm playing online I want to make some extra cash like everyone else! Unfortunately I've discovered that I suck. I want to get better. This is where you guys come in
I signed up at Royal Vegas because they give you a free 10 dollars, but it seems like the .05/.10 tables are so loose and people chase with anything. Axo becomes AA for them and they call down. Any two suited cards are awesome and hey I'll play for a 5XBB raise!!
I took my $10 up to $45 by playing tight and winning some pots. But I headed back down to 20 with some bad calls...back up to 40 and down to 13 now. I am getting frustrated.
It should be easy to take these player's money because they have no idea what pot odds are and chase.
Example:
I have KQs on the button. 3 limpers in front of me and I raise 5XBB. I get one caller and am happy that everyone didn't call this time. Flop comes out rags so I make a continuation bet of 2/3 the pot. Villian calls.
Turn is an A. Crap of all the cards he holds he prally has that one. I check. He checks. I figure he's on a busted flush draw like everyone else and bet 1/2 pot on the river and he calls..he had A3o.
They call everything.
So I am ranting but want some real advice.
I play pocket pairs...suited connectors in position and typical AK,AQ,AJ
KQ,KJ,OJ depending on position.
I hate limping into pots unless I have low pairs or connectors, but half the time 6 peole call your 5X raise and half the time everyone folds.
I don't slowplay unless I have the ultrameganuts because it will comeback to haunt you.
Looking for advice in any area of my game.
Wow this is a long ass post thanks for reading. |

Try not raising your KQs so very much. Only raise AA, KK, and maybe QQ. Limp with all pocket pairs hoping for the set or overs. Play a few more suited connectors, since I bet nobody's raising at that level very much.
Make your hands cheap since they don't know what pot odds are, and run with that.
It'll get, I promise. Happy hunting. Just don't come up and try to kill me on PP using that exact luck I just wished you, ok? |

I hate letting people in with 6 10 when I have A J or something. You really wouldn't recommend raising anything but AA,KK, and QQ?
Continuation bets are almost pointless because they call with nothing or bottom pair a lot of times.
I'd say half the time I make a continuation bet it is called and half it is folded.
Then I go into check fold unless I hit. Is it worth it to bet the turn with just overcards? I can't make it work.
any other advice?
Are all the 10NL tables like this?
Thanks |

At those low limits, they're going to call you whether or not you hit, so continuation bets are pointless. Continuation bets are supposed to make the opponent think "hmm...am I outgunned here?", but most everyone at really low limits DON'T THINK, so continuation bets are worthless. They'll call with middle pair or bottom pair, both of which currently beat you. And so you'll be throwing money away.
THe reason I only recommend raising with AA, KK, and QQ, is because those are hands that should be able to stand up by themselves. The rest are going to need help from the board generally to win, and if everyone's the board, life is going to suck for your AK and AQ.
and no; it is not worth it to be the turn with just overs. You have 6 outs, so you have a 12% to hit, and hitting still might not let you win. |

So basically limp and bet when you hit?
I'll give it a try and see what happens. |

What did you think he had at the river? Did you really think he'd go all in with TPTK?
Your play isn't too bad up until the river. He's been calling GIGANTIC bets by you and all you have is a pair. YOu have to wonder what you're up against. I'd bet $1 or so. If they go all in, well, then crap, I suppose you should fold. |

| the only advice i'd say, is bet the pot on the flop. A dollar bet looks stronger here, and it gets more money in when you're ahead. There's no way to stop them from catching that straight if they're going to call you down no matter what, but most of the time they won't catch it, so make it expensive as possible for them to see the turn. |

Ya in hindsight it was a dumb play. With all 5 cards out AA is not so good anymore.
The problem is that I see people with something like QJ,KJ,or AJ play this hand the same way...call down to the end and go all in with TP.
I figured him on some sort of draw...flush most likely because everyone chases the flush like crazy. When it didn't hit I figured I was good.
But I guess I shouldn't have bet so much on the river because the only hand that would call would beat me. But then again he could very possibly have those hand listed above.
I hate these stakes...does it get better as you go up?
Thanks for the advice..I'll post some more histories sometime soon. |
