Wow, extremely lucky.
Is it because it was early in the tourney you called preflop?
You had a totally dominated hand, if your looking for Q high flush and calling a raise that is 4xBB just for the flush (Q high!!), you will run into big trouble in most situations.
He gave you correct odds to call once the flop came, but I wouldn't be giggling about a Q high flush with no A or K of clubs on the board.

I like to think of Rippy as the Gus Hansen of FTR. He does some crazy stuff, and I often think, "What is he thinking?"
But he always comes out on top. |

as much as i love to "rip" on rippy , i will say (based on what i've seen) that his "craziness" is not always as crazy as it seems, and that even with his "raising with rags" style of play at times, he has the sense to get out when he's beat. |

It seems to me that rippy plays a lot like Doyle suggests in Super System. He's often the dog when everyone is all in and people thinks he gets "lucky" a lot but he figures he's playing freerolls since he's so agressive and wins pots uncontested so often.
It takes a lot of knowing when to get out though and being able to shrug off some big losses.
Its choosing to be the aggressor rather than the prey. It's definitely an exciting way to play. |

| i have to chime in here, no offence to rippy i have been playin with him andwatchin his play quite a bit lately, and i have to say he seems to be a genious at times and a total idiot fish that we all love to play against. If he could get ever fix the leak in his game he could be one of the best, and I really hope he can elevate it to that next level, because he could be a big tymer if he does. |

It would be really interesting to see him at a Party 6max NL table. Although, I suspect that between the high variance of his play style and small learning curve his bankroll might not survive the move.
My guess is that at a full table w/ small blinds he gets himself into trouble like this, then once a few players drop and the blinds go up his style really shines as there is are fewer big hands to run into and more chips out there when the flop misses. |

It's winning poker with a few caveats.
* Online players as a whole call way too much when they should be raising or folding. Hence playing aggressivly at the wrong time against the wrong player is just burning chips.
* Brunson is a master at reading weak players. We don't have the same kind of physical tells or regular opponents to read, giving us less information to work with.
* Working from a tall stack lets you make more plays, since you can play for the other guy's entire stack (implied odds) and lose pots while keeping your leverage. The shorter the table, the bigger of an edge the tall stack has. |
