Hey guys.

I have been winning for a little while now...got a nice bankroll going..and was considering investing some of those winnings in a nice table.

When you guys play home games, do you play on kitchen/dining tables, fold-out round poker tables, or on hold'em tables? If you play on a poker or hold'em table, how much did you pay, and do you think it is worth it?

Here is the one I was considering...check out the folding table with dealer area

i hate kitchen tables Sad

I'd much rather use a real holdem table any day...

you can build them for around 1/3rd the price of that.. don't forget shipping on that, you'll end up with $500 in the table.

the tables as listed on that site included shipping, but still, you are right, it will be close to $500 after taxes etc.

Worth it? Hardly seems so.

I currently use two 34"x34" square tables. I was thinking i could just take some particle board, cut it to fit, and screw it in to the tables, then cover with felt.

Has anyone tried this? Any formalized instructions out there?

I actually bought a hold'em table similar to the one posted. I found it at www.pokerboard.com. I live about 45 minutes from their warehouse so I offered to pick the table up myself and save on shipping. Paying cash, I got the table for $320 out the door. The table is fairly sturdy and seats ten people easily. I would recommend getting the table WITHOUT the dealer tray since the dealer typically rotates around the table in home games so the tray would just get in the way. A couple of other notes, the felt is similar to the type of felt used in various craft projects as opposed to "casino grade." It has padding under it, the cards glide easily over the top, but the felt doesn't feel exactly like the felt found in poker rooms. But then again, it's much cheaper. Also, the burgudy color advertised is closer to red than burgundy. Depending on the lighting conditions where you are playing, the red colors on the cards may become difficult to see from the reflection of light of the red felt from the table. I would recommend green felt. Hope this helps.

Thanks Big J, definitely helps.

I'm going to think about it some more...

I might go head and build one myself. That way, I would be in better control over the quality of felt, bumper, etc.

I'm building one without bumpers. The little ones I play at most of the time don't have bumpers/rails and i don't notice not having them. Maybe once a night you'll get the occasional card slide off the table with a good toss. If it lands face up, deal the player a new one, expose the old one and use it as the first burn card.

Does anyone know where to get felt/padding for a decent price.

Not the type you buy at the fabric store Smile

Unless you can buy locally, nice poker tables are expensive to buy when you add in the shipping. It just doesn't make that much sense to buy a $400-$500 item and pay $100-$150 for shipping. And typically the ones you see in that price range are not nearly as nice as what you will build youself. I strongly recommend building one. It's not that difficult. If you need some guidance, these very nicely written and illustrated 12-seat Texas Hold'em poker table plans available on my site.

All I can say is..... NICE!!!!

Good and sturdy. Well padded. Delivery guy was awesome (he helped me bring it upstairs to my apt which they don't normally do for stuff that heavy). Now all I have to do is host a poker night to see how well everyone fits around it...
