When am i considered to be the short stack? I heard somewhere that 10x BB is short stack so I've been playing with that mentality

When is the time to shove though? i start looking for shove spots with tight hand ranges around the ~10x BB (mid game) and around 5xBB for late game (usually final table).

I like those numbers as a rule, then tailor it to how tight/loose that particular table is.

i have been told the same thing that when you have 10x bb then you are the short stack too, but i have played in some tournaments where i have had 10x and had a bigger stack then 3 others at my table. i think that the question is situational. you could play in a tournament where everyone has about the same in chips but two or three people in this case you need to consider the fact that others will start to feel pressure and you will have time to wait. you also have to look at the size of the people that have to act behind you. if they have stack relative to yours then you have better fold equity.

the reason its 10 M for a shove range is because if u 3x raise any bet on the flop ur either all in or folding leaving u with 7M if u fold. 7M is a way bad a stack to be playing with as u can easily go through the blinds without having another shovable hand. this leaves u with 5.5M which any half decent stack would almost be mathematically correct to call any two high cards even if u have a pair. even if they think they "could" be behind where ur about 60% ahead against most ranges.
the 10x shove indicates that
A) u have a big hand
B) u dont care if they call (big hand)
C) u understand the game well enough to shove 10x at that stage. A thinking player will know that u should be shoving almost any Ax x=/>jack and any pair. and will/should be folding any broadways not including an ace which they would normally call a 3x raise with.

be inclined to shove ANY pair above 8's into a loose big stack blind (call all in stack off ranges for these guys include ANY Ax) and always be first in with AQ AK 99+ with 10x late. reraise 10bb to 3x raisers as well.
