Recently I've been building my BR in the $5.50 games, and it felt pretty easy for a while but now I feel like I'm a losing to bad beats and tighter players too often.

I tried to play 2 tables simultaneously but despite finishing 1st in one and 2nd in another, I felt like it took away too much of my attention and generally hurt my game.

Basically, what I'm asking is, are STGs profitable? I win more than I lose, for sure, but I can't help thinking that there's a lot of luck involved, because if you get shortstacked, you're gonna be pushing and hoping for the best many times. It could work or you could run into a better hand and crash out. When the blinds are steep, it's a little too much gambling for my taste.

So I want to hear opinions about STG vs. MTT vs. ring games.

Thanks.

keep playing and making a profit at sngs until your roled enough to play 10nl ring games and up where the rake isnt so brutal. I also wouldnt suggest playing solely mtts, maybe just one occasionally to reduce the boredom of the grind.

IMO cash is the best way to go and the only form of NLHE that is on an upswing in popularity rather than holding steady/going downhill.

Any form can be profitable of course.

SNG's are only profitable if you can play a very large amount of them as your ROI will be much much lower as compared to mtt's. They are the easiest game to learn though, and can really help your mtt game when it comes to push/fold time and final table situations.

MTT's have the sickest variance, and can really boost your bankroll fast if you run hot in them. Your ROI will be higher than in sng's so you don't have to massively multi-table them, but they can take up a lot of time at once.

Cash games are the most profitable form of poker if you are good, but they have the most expensive learning curve, and there aren't as many hard and fast rules/guides to go by compared to sng's/mtt's.

A lot of people suggest playing SnG's to build up a br, then move to Ring if that is what your eventual goal is, like mentioned earlier. This is what I'm currently doing. It's somewhat slowgoing, but the risk in SnG's vs Ring games can be a lot better supported with a lower br.
