| i need a comp just for poker. im looking to spend the minimum but still have damn good looking monitors to make my playing experience as smooth as possible. i used to be into comps but havent been following lately. what do i need processor wise? RAM wise? graphics card wise? what are some good companies? |

How many monitors are you planning on running? You could get a nice 24" or 30" monitor. Or multiple smaller ones. |

Ok for a good setup on the cheap I would get this.
Motherboard $89
CPU$124
Memory $45(2gb should be good for XP 4gb might be nice for vista)
Case $70[
DVD Burner $24
Hard Drive $65
Basically the case, hard drive and dvd burner don't matter that much. If you need more space get a bigger hard drive.. if you don't like that case get a different one. Throw in a copy of Vista or XP for $90 and the total comes out to be $508.
Heres a review on some 22 LCDs, choose a pair of nice ones. |

| I heard a lot of bad things about 22" monitors... first off the TN panels (means if you look up at your monitor you cant see shit) are bad... and also a 22" monitor gives you 1600x1056 (or something) whereas a 20.1" gives you 1600x1200 (u can fit 9tbles easily with no overlap) the 24" is a 1900x1200 (so u can fit 9 tables easily with no overlap and bigger) |

| Go on ebay and pick one up. I got a dell on there for $250 and that included shipping. P4, 1.7 ghz, 1 gig RAM, Windows XP. It does what I need it to do. |

THIS. Also check craigslist. Poker doesnt take much resources. Buying anything but whats needed is a waste of money and probably an incentive to put non-poker stuff on your poker computer which defeats the point. |

But with that mobo you don't need to buy a dedicated graphics card to run two monitors... I guess you could get a cheaper cpu though... |

Looks like a nice set up. I still have a couple questions, sorry for my computer retardedness. No video card? I thought I needed one to support 2 monitors. Allthough I am now thinking about maybe just getting one 30" monitor.
And I did assemble a computer with my dad back in the day, but theres no way I would be able to do it from scratch. |

Yeah you don't need a dedicated video card to run two monitors with this board. The 3200 integrated graphics is great. It can run two monitors at once. One monitor would be hooked up to the d-sub port and the other to either the hdmi or the dvi port. I bet you could build it yourself. There are many great websites that tell you how to build your own computer. Also forums like tomshardware.com will help you if you run into any issues (btw it might be nice to ask about your setup there too to get some real expert opinions). |

I'm not computer literate so I can't offer any technical explanation, but I know for a fact I have a 22" widescreen monitor and I know for a fact it supports 1600x1200... thats the res I use to play poker  |

Are you sure its not 1680 x 1050? |
It's 1600x1200 lol, I'm not THAT stupid with computers
Granted it looks a little distorted because its on a widescreen monitor, but still fine for tiling 9 tables on. |

Yes, because the only 22" widescreen monitor that I know of that physically has 1200 vertical pixels is this one. |
