Well lately I've just been on a sick downswing when I'm getting it in anywhere from reasonable to good and nearly always having the FE on my side. I won't go into any specifics but let's just say set over set and my rockets getting pooped on in a large raised pot by suited gappers were the last straw. The only good session I've had in the past 3 weeks was when I took someone for a few hundred at 1/2 HU.

Basically what it boils down to is this....how do experienced players like some of you handle your big downswings? I mean I'm not even mad right now after those 2 hands because I feel there's no other way I could have played them (the AA hand the unknown limped UTG and called my large raise...no way could I put him on having a 6 in his hand after he called with second pair and turned trips). But I just feel deflated and helpless. This is my first big downswing since I turned 21, even the usual casino game that I normally crush has me down a 6 buyins in the past 3 weeks. So I'm not really sure how to handle it and would very much appreciate some advice.

Play through it if I feel I'm not on tilt? Take a week off? 2 weeks? Spend more time studying the game (I still haven't finished NLHE T&P)? Thanks in advance....

drop a level or two to get back confidence . take time off if u think it will help. go over sessions and analyse your play. explain in your head why you are making every move on every street. break down every move. make sure you have good reads. if you played tricky before go back to abc for a while.

Just take a minute and think about your poker game. Was there anything that could have let you out of the situation? Was it bad luck? Was it lack of skill? Was it a newbie calling everything?

If that doesn't help, I would go with the advice of elipsesjeff. Smile

Every poker player had sometimes a downswing. Wait 1-2 days and study your hand-histories. Then play again. If the bankroll is too small play a lower limit. You should have min. 700 BB to play a limit in NLHE.

SkyLow: You should have way more than 700BB to play a given stake LHE. Triple that at the LEAST.

I use Jack Daniels.
