Just going through your hands real quick, you need to be more aggressive when heads up. Raise more pre flop and attack after the flop. Put him to the test. You also call raises too much. Re-raise a few times.

I'd definitely agree. Far too passive for my tastes. Heads up, there's really only two positions: The Bully, and the Bitch. Always be the bully. Doesn't matter if you're short stack. or large, Constantly put them to the test. Even if your raises aren't massive... you've got to constantly be putting them on decisions. Cards aren't really important. Some people argue that Heads up is a coinflip, and between two very good players, that's probably true... but this guy could be pushed around. I have no doubt about it looking over the hand histories. He's not a good player... but he took control. You called him down a lot, and were lucky enough to hold up... but try that strategy against a better player, and you'll suffer, long term.

looking back over that, I guess it wasn't that passive, post flop. Preflop, I'd still raise him more.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I know I tend to be a bit passive, but it always seems to backfire on me when I try to get super aggressive and end up trapping myself by getting caught in a big bluff. Can you give me some hand #'s that you are talking about? Thanks again.

A minimum bet? Now, he DOES have the 5... but who can really call your raise with a 5 in their hand. I'm raising him here, as I'm 90 percent certain I still have the best hand. That's the kind of thing you've got to do heads up. If you're going to call... just fold. If he doesn't have the straight draw, you're ahead. If he doesn't, you're really drawing to two overs, if you think he's got a hand. Calling is WEAK. You either believe him and decide not to gamble, or you think he's full of crap. Raise or Fold. The rest of the hand is luck. He drew out. He should have never gotten that far. You let him create a cheap draw by taking control of the hand, and you backing down.

Raise. They're fair sized, and suited, and two gap connected. Now, this is my somewhat loose strategy heads up. We all know you need to hit a flop with this to win... IF it gets that far. Raise him. He may lay down, and we're ahead. Some will disagree with this... but I believe in sheer agression heads up.

This one I just question your logic. It's pretty transparent to me that he hit his small ace.. you've only got a backdoor flush draw, and it's a pretty small pot. I'd probably just live to fight another day... I like the check raise... but not with an ace on the board if I don't have one.

Why not raise here? he raises good hands, and limps poor. Raise him. He either calls, and you make more whne he folds later, or you win the exact same amount you did...

Just a couple examples where your lack of aggression might have cost you money. Just my take. Some others will disagree, i'm certain. We always do, around here Smile

You'll notice two hands with suited jacks, and one I said you should play and one I said you shouldn't. The difference between them is position. You certainly can play J9/8s heads up... but it's about position. You can raise with them... you can't CALL a raise with them.
