Anyway, what is your BR management criteria? 30x buy-ins? Although I have hardly played since mid December I still play $200NL with a 14k bankroll. | ya i ve thought about a prolonged break
problem is, I've spent probaby 50-70% of my poker playing days on prolonged breaks for one reason or another.
I'm finally getting myself to play regularly, am sitting in awesome games but just running like shit.
For once, I'm really getting good at leaving my ego away from the tables, not worrying about outplaying people and just gunning for the big fish.
I think a break might be a decent idea, but man if I could just string a few decent sessions together...
fwiw I'm working on about 25 buyins right now at nl400 so it's not urgent that I move down, but if I lose say another 4-5 buyins I'll definitely be moving down for a while.
Ideally I'd like to be sitting on about 50 buyins to play optimal aggressive poker that I think would be really +ev (but super swingy) vs the regs. Right now I'm playing anything but that, avoiding slightly +ev 3-bets, squeezes and postflop bluffs, just cuz the games are so good that I shouldn't need to do that to beat them.
thx for the thought though, it's definitely something I'm considering. |

been back playing the past cpl days after taking a few days off
felt terrible my 1st cpl sessions but made a little money I think
tonight played a quickie at nl400 and played some of my best poker in a long long time. my reads were crisp and I chose my spots really well
I think I lost about 1.5k though, mainly on 3 deepstacked 50/50's that all went against me
i don t care though; my vow for feb is to not check results once and try to worry more about how I'm playing than how I'm running |

I know that Im new to the board, but I was intrigued by your operation and I just had to post after looking at your last 10 or so hands. I dont play 400NL, and I have a very long time to get there, but I do belive there is no way in hell that I could handle the variance you are handling. I am amazed that you can still sit down in front of the computer after being in some of the hands you have been in. I mean, I typically playe 60k hands a month, and I think you have had more coolers than I have had had in a year.
My friend, I say to you GG just for the ability to still grind it out. |

Played a ton (by my standards) between Fri-Sun. I'm trying to avoid going above 4 tables and I'm really table-selecting hard.
I feel like I'm playing great but the results still aren't there. My goal is to avoid checking results until the end of Feb and I've been good about that so far. I just can't seem to find myself to the "right" side of the marginal spots. Weird things like 43/21 fishy open-shoving for 500$ when I have JJ... turning OESFD and 2-barrel-pricingmyselfin vs a set that slowplayed the flop... AA and KK going down about 1/2 the time. But like I said, I really feel like I'm playing great and now feel completely comfortable beating up on the regs I'm facing; just the right balance of well-timed aggression without spewiness. I'd guess I'm down another 2-3 buyins but I'm gonna give myself about 3-4 more before moving down to nl200.
Wasn't able to play yesterday or today because of a massive presentation for school and I doubt it'd be a great idea to sit right now on 3 hrs sleep in 48 hrs.
I'm looking at 3 consecutive days of 1k hands playing 4 tables or fewer between tomorrow and friday. Hopefully I can keep playing well and manage to get myself in some better spots. |

You are in a game full of stations.
In the words of Warpe, you should give them something to call.
I believe you are too stack-off-happy |

I hate the fact that when things start turning around for me I'll be at nl200.
But so far for Feb W@SD is 39% and I don't wanna be grinding lots of tables of nl200 with less than 45 buyins so now's the time to get my ass back there.

Just played about 1k hands at nl200 and I think I’m gonna stop for the day, even though my plan was to put in a ton of hands when moving down.
I just notice that I’m kind of on life-tilt and I think it’s related to poker. Nothing really interesting happened during my session except for a tilty shove after a 27/24 raised my c-bet on a TT2 board and I shoved with AK to get him off of small pairs… and of course he has 2’s full. Everytime I can narrow a player’s range down to very few hands, it always seems like they show up with the goods lately.
Anyways, I just don’t think the vibe is good right now so time to quit for the day. I only ended up down a buyin, but it just seems like random shit is sending me off the deep end right now.

Update :
Have started grinding off 20k hands in 14 days for the Party Bonus.
I'm playing pretty snug 7-9 tabling and things have been going unbelievably bad. All at nl200.
I haven't experienced shitty variance like this since I first started playing cash games almost 2 years ago.
Fuck me.
I felt pretty good in today's first session. Then I checked results and saw that I had dropped a buyin over 1.5k hands.
Just fired up another session but knew the results were really really bad after about 30 mins so I just stopped cuz I felt shitty. Just checked and sure enough... -847$ in 369 hands.
Just for the shit of it I'll post the big hands from my 400 hand session :
Villain in this hand was a nit running at 17/12. Didn’t have a great postflop read.
Preflop is pretty much always a suited connector or PP. I check the flop to let him bluff small pairs – which I find these villains almost always do (putting HERO on big cards).
The way the action went, villain never has the nut or 2nd nut flush (assuming my preflop read is correct) and on the turn his range is 333, a straight with J9s, a flush and a bluff with a small pair. I decide to make the big turn call with the intention of calling any 4-flush board (unless the river brings the A or K of hearts, in which case it makes sense for him to shove a bit light with the 3rd or 4th nuts).
The river is a good card for me. I don't see him turning a str8 into a bluff so his shoving range gets really really narrow : 3’s full hoping I have a flush and can call and… the stone-cold str8 flush nuts. FWIW I’d play JT without a heart the exact same way if I decided to go with the hand on the turn.

This next one is just a standard preflop play I make a lot when villains show lots of 3-betting aggression from the blinds. Rather than get fancy, I just shove TT+, suited aces and AK+. I love playing postflop in position but when I’m doing heavy multitabling this is a pretty tough strategy to play against and requires less tricky postflop thinking.
The result is that I usually have decent equity when called, get action on my monsters and usually get ppl to tighten up their 3-betting range which is great. Here the guy timed down to 2 secs before calling :

This next hand was a semi-tough spot but I couldn’t find a fold since the villain was a 25/20 aggro with a high flop aggression. I usually see these players play overs +FD very aggressively.
If I stop and ask myself “what does he play this way that I beat?” I have a tough time finding an answer. But since I raised the flop and pretty much hit gin on the turn… Oh well :

Unfortunately nothing good to report.
Played 1.2k hands just now at 17/13, got AA and KK 10 times combined and ended up - 2.5 buyins with them. Also ended up at -1k for the session.
God I'm sick of dropping 5 buyins every session. Make it stop. |

Ok here are today’s 10 biggest losers in descending order :
1: Villain is 24/20 aggro. We have been splashing quite a bit both pre and postflop. I have been getting the better of him (called him down with A high, value bet thin in a cpl of reraised pots).
