Cliff Notes:
- Barry Greenstein and the PPA went to Congress to lobby recently.
- After the trip he says he expects online poker to be back strong and legal using credit cards and bank accounts within the next 6 months.
- He met with 30-40 congressmen and all but one said they would vote for the bills he (and the PPA) wanted them to vote for.
- Congressmen Barney Frank told Barry that, "as soon as he knows there are enough votes in the Senate to push this thing through, then he'll put it up for the vote." |

I hope that the states **cough**WA**cough** will reconsider their laws as well.
Then again, I can see how playing poker is as bad as torturing animals... |

One can hope that if the country legalizes online poker then that would put pressure on the state to do so. We would need a lobby though and there is no effort in Wa, currently. |

Probably have to register with the government as a player allowing them to take a rake equal to or greater than the house.
There is no greater whore in the world than a politician |

| Nah. Just paves the way for Google Hold'em. Gov't will probably tax *them* (meaning we'll probably pay a higher overall rake) |

actually i thought the House, in the US, was heading to the Supreme Court for a more difinitive definition of what this law even means.
you mean they enact a law without understanding HOW to enforce it....or if they even can? hmmmmm, what a country...no surprise there.
at least something is moving in the direction of regulation/legalization. but, i still feel its a rather long way off. 1-3 years, not months. |

| It would be great if this finally happens. Although, I've always been worried that a lot of the points raised awhile back in the Great Debate/Great Debate II threads on the PPA forums might ring true in the end. The whole "regulated gaming w/ government oversight may be worse than the gray area status quo we're currently in". Who knows if the anti-poker folks have plans to pass crazy regulation and tax laws after legalizing online poker that, in effect, damages the game more than ever. In reality, I doubt this will occur. Although, the cynic in me wonders why congress is suddenly warming up to this (ie. a possible 6 month time frame? really?) if there isn't something sinister being the scenes. |

| Congress is warming up to it, because they have a 3 Trillion dollar war they need to pay for. |

this email I just got explains 1Billion, now add this up 1000 times and you get 1 Trillion. And we are talking about a war that will be 3 Trillion. It's fucking absurd!!
1Billion=
How many zeros in a billion?
This is too true to be funny.
The next time you hear a politician use the
word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of it's releases.
A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus (well maybe)was alive.
C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.
D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E.
A billion dollars ago was only
8 hours and 20 minutes,
at the rate our government
is spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.
Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
is presently asking Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS
to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
what does it mean?
A.
Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman, and child)
you each get $516,528.
B.
Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.
C.
Or... if you are a family of four...
your family gets $2,066,012.
