I already have a desktop and Im getting a laptop mainly for poker.

Ive already decided on a dell and found a good deal on a Dell Vostro 1000. The only concern is that it has an AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 1.7 GHz processor. Is this gonna be cool for what I want.

I could also get an Inspiron 1520 with a Core 2 Duo 1.5 GHz processor. Its more expensive but Im guessing its not really needed for me.

Somebody give me a recomendation on any add-ons or specs that you have (or wish you had) ie. mouse, extra battery, ect.
Help me out... thanks.

PS. oh yea, Is 1 gb RAM ok with windows vista or do you think I should upgrade to 2 gigs??

Not sure if this will help, but I have an Inspiron E1505 with 2gb's of ram running windows xp. I really like the computer and it's been great for poker, but I also have an external 20" monitor which helps with multi-tabling.

If you plan on running Vista I've heard 2gb's of ram is highly desirable. I don't know about the processor, I've read that most software isn't written to take advantage of dual-core processing, but Vista might be an important exception. I'd look into it. Also, get the biggest/highest resolution monitor you can afford if you want to multitable.

If you're getting Vista definitely go for 2GB of ram. While it's true that most applications don't take advantage of several cores, Windows XP/Vista do. You're hardly ever just running one program at a time and having more than one core speeds up things a lot when multitasking, essentially keeping the system responsive at all times.

I have a new Inspiron 1520 with 3gb RAM and if you turn UAC off even Vista can be enjoyed. And yes I use it to play Poker and Games on it.

I just got a new laptop myself, so the following is from personal experience.

First you should understand a few things: 1.7AMDx2 is much faster then 1.5 Core2 duo. You can stiil hear people arguing about this but instead of listening to people- google up some tests, comparing the two processors that you are about to purchase and find the facts.

For Vista you pretty much have to have 2gigs of ram, but If you only have XP at home, I would recommend finding a laptop with xp on it as you might have to buy a lot of new hardware in order to extract full use out of your laptop.
Examples: most older routers do not work with Vista(mine was only 1 year old and still not supported). Same with printers(if you print wirelessly you might have to check compatability as well)

For multitabling you want a bigger screen, but at the same time 17" laptops are hard to carry around and the 15" laptop is as perfect as you can get to using your laptop as a "laptop" and not a "desktop replacement".
Also, while bigger screens are easier on your eyes, for multitabling it still isn't enough and you will want a dual monitor set up.

All i have is 15" desktop monitor and 15.4 wide screen laptop. Whenever I feel like mltitabling, I set my laptop next to the desktop monitor, plug it in and play away on the dual screens. The point is: get whatever screen you feel comfortable with, but if you are multitabling- make sure your laptop makes it easy to plug in another monitor.
