How long have you been playing? I played my first hand of poker in January , but I have only been playing with real money for over a week.
Where do you mostly play? PokerStars
Why did you come to FTR? Once I decided to take poker seriously I went looking for a site that could help my game and found this site.
Do you have any goals (and how can we help)? My goal would become good enough to make a living playing poker (much easier said that done). |

What do you play? Hold'em, both Limit and NL. Online I try to mix it up with ring-games and SNG tourneys and the occasional large tourney if I have a lot of time to spend.
What stakes do you play? Mostly the micro-limits online and low limits in a B&M Casino like 1-2 NL and 5-10 Limit. My bankroll can't really afford it right now with paying for school and all.
How long have you been playing? I've been in the game and following it for over 4 years now. I didn't get really serious about until 2-3 years ago when I started learning how to deal and can do it as a part-time job on the side.
Where do you mostly play? I started out in the beginning with PokerRoom, because I could just play on any computer without a software download then I gravitated towards UltimateBet for awhile. Now I find myself looking at other sites and/or jumping back to PokerRoom. Casino-wise, I'm Canadian and live in Toronto, so I either head to Niagara or Blue Heron in Port Perry.
Why did you come to FTR? I want to take my game to the next level. I've had relative success in a B&M but always seem to stink it up online. I've started to pile up a sizeable library of books on poker and they've really helped. Now, I'm looking to benefit from the knowledge of the online community aside from my books and personal experiences.
Do you have any goals? I'm just looking to learn. There's so many aspects of the game that I have no idea or have to improve on such as all the calculations that need to happen in a short period of time as well as reading players both online and in real-life. In the end, I just want to be able to be a winning player, no matter the stakes. If I do well in the lower levels, I want to be able to move up and learn to succeed up there as well. |

What do you play? TEXAS NL HOLD'EM
At what stakes do you play? 400 and 600NL
How long have you been playing? Started playing online in June of 2006
Where do you mostly play? CD Poker, Titan, VC Poker, Noble Poker, Poker Nordika,
Why did you come to FTR? It just seemed really great to have friendly, experienced players who were willing to help and share their thoughts. It's been said before, but not all poker forums are like that.
Do you have any goals (and how can we help)? I've been lucking around here for quite some time and i think you can learn a lot more in here than you can from any poker book. |

What do you play?
Mostly full-ring limit at the moment. Some SH limit. Some NL for the fun of baiting people into calling my all-ins. I've also been playing around on the new thirty minute sngs (hellkat) that party offer. The occasional NL 50player sng.
At what stakes do you play? micro.
Limit - usually .25-.5 and .5-1, have experimented successfully with 2-4 but got scared (need a bankroll first!).
No Limit - $10 & $25
SnG's $3, $6, $11
How long have you been playing?
Travelling in South America and met a swiss guy who claimed to be making money from online poker. Started about six months ago playing sngs and mtts between surf sessions and bus trips. Won a fifty player mtt early on so thought I could play. Couldn't. The money I lost over that first few months I now consider an investment as i was usually playing only one table and was simultaneously reading a truckload of strategy articles and poker forums.
Where do you mostly play?
Party 'cos that's somehow where I started. Sometime soon I'm hopefully going to deposit $600 at FullTilt for their 100% Bonus and some eventual Rakeback.
Why did you come to FTR?
Cos I was playing only one table and felt like I had time. Stayed cos there is a mine of information here.
Do you have any goals (and how can we help)?
Yep.
Goals. Work on my game and try and close my biggest leaks. Learn to crush the limits I'm playing at. Eventually start to understand poker a little. Build a roll - I cleared my accounts to zero in July. Deposited fifty at party and am trying to turn that into a thousand. Decided to withdraw 400 if I got above 500, did that a few days ago. So now trying to turn 100 into 1000... Then. Do some Bonus whoring/rakeback playing. Draw out more profit. Hopefully roll myself for 1-2limit and 50nl. Become better at 50 player sngs (I'm good at reaching the last twelve, bad at getting
to the last 3).
how can you help? well, I've started posting and am happy to have the flaws in my game and weaknesses of my observations pointed out. |

How long have you been playing?: 2 years on and off, mostly off
Where do you mostly play?: PokerStars

Hi, my name is Seain (Pronounced scene, weird huh?) I'm 26 from Australia.
I've been playing online hold'em poker (play money games) on and off for a bit over a year for fun. I've decided to take the step into real money games. I usually only play playmoney MTT's on Party Poker. Normal games with fake money are just stupid. Get myself to the last table a lot. Though guess it doesn't mean much being fake money and all.
Just deposited some money into PartyPoker with FTR100 Bonus
Within a few years I'd like to make a nice side income from playing online. I found this site through google while searching for some tips. Plenty of information here and looks like a nice place to hang out and discuss some (actually a lot) of my short comings.
Can anyone recommend a couple of good books for a beginner player to read to get started? Currently I'm reading Small Stakes Hold'em. It covers a lot of topics which is going to require many re-reads until I fully understand them.
Anyway glad to be a member of what looks like a helpful and knowledgeable community. |

How long have you been playing?: Casually for 4 years but now looking to spend more time playing and improving my game.
Where do you mostly play?: PokerStars, PKR, Ladbrokes. Currently Bonus whoring (unsuccessfully) at Absolute Poker.
Why did you come to FTR?: For the hints & tips.
Do you have any goals (and how can we help)?: To get rid of this fishy smell thats following me around. Hopefully FTR can help if I am brave enough to post some of my hand histories |

What do you play? umm...poker? Holdem mostly. Omaha now and then for change of pace.
At what stakes do you play? Online, just play money so far. Live, I've played in small $25 tourneys (30-55 players, depending on day/time) and 3/6 LHE.
How long have you been playing? I always hate being associated with anything thats all of the sudden HUGE...like holdem became. I always gave my friends shit over watching poker on TV. Then about 6 months ago I started playing home games with them and my mind has pretty much been stuck on poker since then. I guess not all pop-culture explosions are automatically bad.
Where do you mostly play? Again, online I've just used play money, although I'm depositing my first real money this week after payday. I used to play on Stars only, but I've heard that Full Tilt is good too, so I've been there for the last week. IRL, we have a poker room (they call it a casino, but it's just poker games) closeby where I play. One of our dealers was down in Vegas for the WSOP and made it on TV (briefly, they obviously aren't the stars of the show) dealing final table at the main event.
Why did you come to FTR? I could just copy and paste everyone else's responses here, but basically I want to get good at poker. I'm not a complete donk, but I know I have LOTS of room to improve.
Do you have any goals (and how can we help)? First, because although the wife likes the winnings, she doesn't handle the losing nights very well (even though I'm in the black overall at this point)....SO, I want to actually build a bankroll to play from so that she can plainly see that I'm not actually LOSING money (anything lost was only won in the first place). At this point it's been "Honey, I'm taking $50 to go play tonight!" No more of that!!!
After that, like everyone else it seems, I want to work my way up through the games, eventually winning enough to provide a good bump to my regular income. I can't imagine ever quitting work to play poker, but if everything went well, I could see dropping the full-time job down to part-time and playing more poker in the off time.
My main problems now are that I'm too tight-passive and that I have no ability to put people on hands. Those are the two parts of my game I'm focusing on at this point. |

I just registered a few mins ago. Actually stumbled accross this site a couple of day ago and thought it would be nice to be able to join the discussions, learn some things and maybe hopefully be able to contribute a little, too.
Name: Timo
Age: you know it's not polite to ask that I am 26
What do you play? mostly NLHE cash ring, occasionally a SNG or a Tourney
At what stakes do you play? sucked bad at NL10, got a way better time at NL25 (kinda weird, huh)
How long have you been playing? seriously only a couple of month
Where do you mostly play? I like the FT layout the best, so can mostly be found there ...
Why did you come to FTR? Hope to improve my game and my understanding of the game ...
Do you have any goals (and how can we help)? I guess if I improve my game the rest will come in time, too ...
Thanx for the opportunity to become part of the group.
good day

I joined the site a while back but stopped playing poker for a while when "the land of the free" made it more difficult, but I've gotten back into it lately so here goes.
Name: Chad
Age: 30
What do you play? Almost exclusively NL full rings .05/.10 right now, but play some PLOH8 for a change now and again.
How long have you been playing? Played for about a year real heavy before the US changes, now play just in spare time.
Where do you mostly play? Full Tilt mostly or Bodog
Why did you come to FTR? Because if I'm gonna play I wanna win of course! There's soooo much info here I try to just soak up as much as I can.
Do you have any goals and how can we help? Of course I want to be a winning player and move up in stakes. My goals really are to just learn from those with different ideas and more experience. You can help by just keep on doing what you are doing.
Thanks so much! |

At what stakes do you play? $5-26 SnG's -- Micro at the Ring
How long have you been playing? On-line, real money about 2 months
Where do you mostly play? FTP
Why did you come to FTR? I was searching for an infomative site that was Poker centered rather than people centered. I should explain better ... I am a member at another site but it lacks something, mainly serious informative insight to the games I play. I don't mind dizziness but warm-touchy-feely stuff and Poker ???? don't help me towards my goal (see below.)
Do you have any goals (and how can we help)? Yes, to become a consistant winner in Tournaments (+18 player) Help? already started; firstly for giving me access to the wealth of information on this site, I joined because I read about half of the 'Tips' by soupie on "How to win MTT" and decided to join there & then, afterwards I continued reading soupie's super stuff and added the page to my Favourites.
Diverse:
1. I don't whine
2. Bad-Beats? the one's I remember are the one's I give to other's except one recently I saw quad Q's beaten by quad K's, OUCH
3. Do I make mistakes? ALL the time, but have the sense to quit like tonight when I was tired and lost 2 x 9, player SnG $5,50 each
4. I hope to improve my game and would in time, enjoy live feedback on my play, but for now I'm happy treading water and moving up the ladder - 1 step up & 2 steps down.

Hey Guys
Great site. Looking forward to playing one of the FTR tourneys soon
Name: Olly
Age: 26
What do you play? Texas hold'em
At what stakes do you play? $5 Sngs and Mtts.
How long have you been playing? Played on off for about a year when i was at law school but didn't really have the time to play. Now im working i have free time in the evenings so started playing regularly since June 07.
Where do you mostly play? Did play on Party Poker but thought would get better, quicker if I played against less wild players on PokerStars.
Why did you come to FTR? For the poker strategies and advice.
Do you have any goals (and how can we help)? My personal best is 4th in a 180 player $4 buy-in. My aim is to get more regular results, control my emotions better and generally play better poker.
My one query (at the moment) is that I've read HOH1 (at the suggestion of the book reviews) and loved it. Looking forward to reading book 2 but was wondering if reading these books by themselves will leave holes in my game and would reading TOP be greatly beneficial ?
Thanks in advance |

Hi, welcome to FTR!
Reading the HOHs by themselves won't leave holes in your game. Just remember which parts of the books refer to specific parts of any given tournament, and you'll be fine. You should definitely eventually read both (or all 3), though.
Absolutely read TOP, I've heard that it's one of the best books to read if you're gonna read a poker book. I keep trying to read it, but I hate reading so much. It's sitting on my couch and my bookmark is still in the first 5 pages |
