After Random_Hero started his Operation I decided I need some sort of stability to keep me on track.
I need to get back to basic ABC Poker. Focus is a big thing for me, because I do not have that much free time I don't study or review my HH's as much as I should and I think posting regularly in my own thread will give me more dedication to learning the game.
I am in the middle of a huge downswing- I don't know the numbers because I don't keep track of them- which is one of the things I am going to be tackling. But if I had to guess I have placed ITM about 5-10 times in my last 25-30 SnG's.
I need to start getting better at ICM and controlled aggression- overall I think I have been either playing too passive or spewing too much.
In this thread I will post:
1. At least one hand every night where I think I played poorly
2. At least one hand that I had a hard decision
3. One hand I think I played well
Occassionally I will post full HH's and HH's from different sections of the SnG (ie. Bubble, early on, ITM, Heads Up)
Goals
1.)Get my roll to $1000
2.) Find where I am playing poorly and fix it
3.) Get a good handle on ICM and push/fold poker
4.) Get better at putting opps on ranges
5.) Get better at getting reads
6.) Stay focused and patient
I plan to play as much as possible- and play every weeknight. Some days I cannot play at all for instance next weekend I will not be posting Friday or Saturday because I will be in Milwaukee for Summerfest (a huge concert) with my gf.
A hopeful goal is 10 games a week, maybe more, maybe less.
I also might try a microstake donkafest here and there.
I will update as much as possible. Wish me luck.
And thanks to Random_Hero for starting an Operation and get me inspired to do the same.

I dont know what you usually play, but I've found the turbos great for when I'm short on time. You can squeeze one in before bed without having a late night like a normal might do.
Similar bankroll to me, and Random Hero is playing the same stakes, so it'll be interesting to keep track of both.
Do you single table? I find my reads are so much better. I also make sure to take notes of interesting plays. It may not give you a read, but it can give you some idea. For instance if someone limps AK early, that goes in a note. Doesnt mean they always slowplay big hands, but its a pointer.
Good luck! |

Yea I usually play the 6.50's.
I was up to around 300, but I transfered $70 to my father as a present (just starting out) and I lost the rest- horrible play and cards.
I almost always single table, but there is always noise-music or conversation or tv-when I play, I can't get away from it.
P.S.- Can anyone link that site to make those operation sig's? |

| Good luck Zee. From the tourneys you've posted and your replies to others' hands I can see you're more than good enough to beat the $6.50s. |

ok first day and I took 7th and 2nd. Still in the downswing- just not making good plays and getting good opportunities. Here is a tricky hand I have no idea how to play.
Villain (UTG+1) was maniacal and raising huge almost every hand. He only showed down one hand and it was a set that ran into a straight.

CO (t1410)
Button (t1350)
Hero (t1500)
Preflop: Hero is SB with Q , A .
UTG calls t30, UTG+1 raises to t60, 3 folds, Button raises to t90, Hero raises to t210, 1 fold, UTG folds, UTG+1 raises to t330, Button calls t240, Hero calls t120.
Flop: (t1050) 4 , K , J (3 players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets t530 (All-In), Button folds, Hero folds.
Final Pot: t1580 |

No reads.
I figured a with the river not completing draws and SB checking it was a large enough pot to try and take it on the river.

I don't know man that sounds really aggressive to me early on. I would probably dump A9 this early because it's not suited. And I would never C-bet against two low buy-in players early on with this kinda board.
First hand I would also dump it this early after two raises but it's much more harder to do it and I'm never sure folding is the right play. |

AQ hand - with the maniac minraiser and button re-raiser, I probably just flat call and try to see a flop rather than re-raising. Once you get 4-bet and Button calls, you have to call too BUT play very carefully on an A or Q high flop.
A9 hand - preflop raise is fine from the CO, but that flop is very dangerous indeed for a hand that missed - just check/fold with two opps in the hand with you. C-betting this flop is a bad idea IMO. Betting the river is totally pointless too. |

I don't think AQo is strong enough to 3-bet PF after the button puts in a (wimpy) reraise. I'd call the button and fold to a 330 raise from the villian and take note to only get involved with him if I can close the betting (or I have a monster I want to reraise).
A9- really don't like the c-bet on that flop with that many people still involved. Go into check/fold mode |

On another note relating to getting better, one thing that really changed my game around was having someone/something who I can talk to to hold me accountable for my stupidity/losing. I lost track sometimes even with Poker Tracker of my losses in sngs. I was doing alright in the $25 nl cash tables and making a little playing the sun million satellites, but my sng game was just lost. Then one day a fella at a table started cracking on me because of my SNG stats on Sharkscope. I looked my name up there and wanted to puke. I was down $150 in profit and at one point I was down to almost -$250. I realize that i could have seen this in PT, but I play at work and at home so my stats get mixed up. From there on I talked to my brother who plays poker everyday about hands/situations and focus'd hard on my play. I also used the free searches on sharkscope to keep track of my stats/profit/etc (I will be using PT when i get my new job in a couple of weeks to keep track instead of SS). That was at the beginning of this month.
I am not posting this to brag about my game (I suck) or to promote a website. I am posting this because when i see how im doing its motivation to improve and do my %110 best to do better the next game. This might not work for you, but its working for me. I started my operation at the beginning of this month with -$150, playing no cash games, just a few Sun Million satellites, and all the sngs i could muster.

Ok so this is the first tournament I have won in a long time. I admit varience helped me quite a bit as I cracked AA 2x and JJ once, but it feels good to be on this end.
Hands 7 and 12 were/are very tricky for me. Hand 12 I think I found a leak- I try to bluff after a c-bet if I feel they are weak into calling stations.
Heads up needs some definate re-tooling I think. Otherwise I dont think I donked it up too badly.
