One Liners!

To all the online players out there, of all experience levels.

One sentence advice to beginners in this forum.

Here are a few thought starters:

Beginners- What have you been taught that has improved your game recently?

Advanced players- What experiences taught you something interesting about yourself and your play?

Experts- What timeless advice is important to you?

I'll start:

Fold more preflop.

Bet fold the turn.

Regarding NL-Dont stack off with one pair

There are some hands you can raise with, that you can't call a raise with!

KJs from late position is an example of such a hand.

The only thing thats really made me learn anything special about my game is studying my game and talking with other players (especially andy-akb and biondino). A few one/few liners of my own that ive noticed at one point or another...

Treat one liners as guidelines, not as crutches. Use them until you find your feet and then move past them.

Varience is much bigger than beginners think it is and much smaller than regulars think it is. Every single time Ive been hit by varience and gone into a downswing Ive looked at my play and realised im playing badly (usually too weak/passive brought on by downswing fear).

Make some FTR instant messenger friends and talk through hands/sessions/life with them. It helps alot.

Worry about making the most out of your common situations. Spend more time figuring out when to fold / push with top pair and less time worrying about folding KK preflop or maximising value with quads.

Limping trash in the small blind is more expensive than it looks.

Position is MUCH more important than beginners think.

Small hands for small pots. Big hands for big pots.

Preflop you need at least a Good hand + Bad position OR a Weak hand + Good position. Dont play a hand without at least one of these.

Make sets get paid Smile

short stacks almost always suck

do not slowplay your monster hands. Bet them.

Raise.

Pay attention to stack sizes.

When players at 50NL/100NL raise, they usually have the goods

When players at 25NL raise, they almost always have the goods unless they're a maniac, which will become clear pretty quickly.

When players at micro-stakes raise, you can fold TP or worse because they have a hand EVERY time.

Position is one of the important concepts in poker.

Don't play perfect poker. Spot the holes in someones strategy and open up. Win the battle of mistakes.

It's actually Sklansky's idea, but it really shows a big picture of NL poker game.

Learning when to shove was one of the most important lessons in deep stack cash games for me.

Correct Bankroll Management is the most important thing in anyones poker "career".

Don't pay off others to attempt to catch your gutshot.

Also, TPTK is not as good of a hand as you think

Pay attention to board texture and other players betting patterns in relation to it

All 4 of those things have been the downfall of my game over my beginning stages (which i'm still in)
