You know you're running bad when...

At least 4 sets get busted in 12 hours
QQ is your biggest loser for the night
AA is your second biggest loser
You muck a set of Aces on the river after going heads-up to the flop.... and it's a good laydown
You flop a boat, bet and everyone folds
The loose guy at the table who likes to cold call your raises know exactly when you have big cards that missed and check/raises you.

The top 10 things that irritate me about live poker.

10. The wheel straight.
People who play A2-A5o deserve more pain and suffering.

9. Bad beat jackpots
If you want to play for a jackpot, pay the stupidity tax (lottery) or hit the slots like the rest of the lemmings. Stop fucking up the cardroom. Also, charging a 10% administrative fee is fucking highway robbery. Whoever thought of that must have moved on and gone to work for Enron or Worldcom.

8. "Can I see both hands please?"
It does nothing to stop collusion. It just gives rude, annoying people another way to get information in a war of information. It'm a fucking TAgg. You can count the hands I regularly play on your fingers + toes. When I have anything I come out shooting. When I have nothing sometimes I come out shooting because it's probably still better than your dogshit hand that missed the flop horribly. Duh!

7. Checking it down
Don't you love it when a couple guys that have been playing with each other call out "check it down." Gee, so much for everyone acting in their own fucking best interest. I though collusion was bad...

6. Stealing the blinds in 4/8 and lower

Don't you just love it when playing in a high effecitive rake game the bozo with 92o open limps from the button? Why don't each just fucking give the house a buck and call it even?

5. "Ace King no good"
When I go to hell (and I have no doubt of this), I'm certain that one day a week will be reserved for some guy with an Asian accent to visit my fire-pit and say this into a mega-phone until my ears bleed. The really sick part is that they say this pre-flop when cold calling with god knows what suited rags or Ace-rag. Post-flop, I guess thier single brain cell is incapable of putting me on another hand after I raise pre-flop. Then they go on about how silly it is to raise it pre-flop. I used to find this funny.

4. It's too fucking slow
Out of sheer bordom I fixate on all 3 hands I played in the last hour and what I could have done differently. Inevitably this leads to tilt.

3. Cash
Why can't I get money electrically put in an account and transfered to chips without going through a bunch of hassle + paying transaction fees? Online poker figured this one out, why can't the B&M boys? Why do I have to carry nearly $1k to play a full day of 8/16?

2. It's way too fucking slow
After a couple hours 87s looks like a monster AK is a sucker hand and ATo looks really good UTG. It's like an alternate-reality. No wonder everyone plays like pig vommit.

1. Checking
No one can give a fucking straight forward response. You're supposed to tap the table or say "check." God bless those that do. More often you ged nods, grunts groans or pointing to you (often with a gay little circular motion.) Come on guys, give me some sort of quick, clear queue it's my turn to bet after raising pre-flop so I don't reach for chips out of turn and make it too fucking easy for you the check raise my TAggy ass.

Oh, and Comcast can suck my left nut and make my right one jealous for being down yesterday.

lol... wow isn't it the truth. Every time I play NL ring live I watch as the stardard opening bet becomes 6xbb then as the night progressive and more people get in deep its 8, then 10. What is it that they raise 10xbb pre flop with? Aces you ask? try Q9o. look I have QQ, raise 6xbb, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... thats right 5 callers on a 9 person table. look I hit trips.. raise 10xbb. 4 callers. Seems the only thing that gets respect is "all in"... then you still get 1 retard saying " God I love with hand.. I think i'll see it out!" It'll pay you off in the long run. Its funny how I can take 5-6 hundred in 4 hours playing 1/2 nl Live, and it seems like a cake walk.

I have a feeling with a couple more sessions you could take a bunch of money live, just have to adjust to the retards Smile

Fnord, good post. Sadly, I didn't find it funny at all. You were dead on. That pretty much sums up my recent experience at live 3/6. I assumed 8/16 would feature more quality players but I guess not.

My only recommendation would be to try bringing an iPod and listening to nice music while you play. You won't be so bored, you can tune out all the moronic comments, and basically you can just relax and play your cards like you're online. Worked for me.

I think Fnord has summed up my entire Vegas trip. Bad beat after bad beat, followed by suckouts left and right from rookies who cant figure out what the betting limits are.

At Mandalay Bay, a rookie sits down and wins his first hand with trash, 2nd hand he hits quad Aces - JACKPOT!!! The floorman drop 300 on the table in front of him. I played the next 2 hours trying to get a peice of that stack, and watched him lose every chip to the other players, while I looked at hands such as K3o, busted straights, overcards to every pocket pair, etc.

625 / 16 = ~39BB

dudes i lost $500 in bad beats at $3/$6... that's *83* BB's!! thank god i was able to turn it around and win it all back. what a rush on the upswing.

a large part of the problem was that every time i caught QQ or AK, it would inevitably be in a kill pot where the betting went to $6/$12. i'd end up losing $50+ on each of those damn hands, often having the best of it til the river. so technically, i guess i overcounted the BB's from the kill pots.

fortunately, at the end of the week, my AKs finally hit in one of those kill pots and i dragged $142 in one fell swoop. probably my biggest pot ever. keep in mind i usually play $0.50/$1 hold em!!

the $500 loss was over 2.5 days... $200 the first day, $200 the second day, another $100 on the third day. the laws of chance reverted to normal somewhere in the middle of that third session and it took me two more days to break even. i kept good records of what and how i played each day and i'm convinced i played a very tight solid game while i was losing.
