Alright, this is gonna be longwinded and sound like a vent post but it is ABSOULTELY something everyone here needs to read if you plan on playing live poker in Vegas in the future.

First, I will not mention casino names BUT if you want to know you can PM me.

At 2:30 AM yesterday one of my best friends (who was visiting) was mugged for an excess of $1500 in poker winning outside of a casino on the south side of the Vegas strip. The person who mugged him had sat with him at the 2-5 NL table for a large part of the night and the confronted him with 3-4 other people between the casin0 and the strip. My friend was slightly harmed and obv. $1500 lighter.

I write this only to warn those on how to be safe about playing cards in Las Vegas. I have lived out here for 9 months now and am what I would consider a local reg at the limit games spreading 8-16 and higher at Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian, etc...

Here are some tips to avoid this horrendous situation:

1. Always valet your car at the casino you are playing at if you are driving.
-------This does you one invaluable service, it allows you to never leave the casinos sights (cameras) between leaving the card room to getting into your car.

2. Never ever flaunt the amount of money you have on you during your session. Do not mention to any over your opponents how much you brought, how big you roll is, etc...

3. If you EVER win a large sum of money don't feel any reservations to ask security to escort you to your vehicle/room/taxi line.
----This happens way way too much when someone hits a jackpot at a slot machine which is highly visible.

4. Do not walk alone on/near the strip after midnight. You are just asking for trouble.

Following these tips can save you a lot of hassle along the line. It's hard enough winning money in Vegas without it being blindly stolen from you. Be safe the next time you go and make sure you protect yourself and you hard earned winnings.

Finally if you are mugged on a casino's property they are obligated to refund your lost money. Therefore, if this does happen to you make sure you go back into the casino to lodge a complaint. They will assist you if it happened on their property.

I like point 3. I have never played in a casino, but am suprised that in somewhere as big as Vegas they cant just wire $$ straight to your bank account.

Same advice even if you are with a small group. 1 gun vs a group still = money lost and possibly more. Keep your eyes open and stay alert.

Good post.

It's not a matter of "can't", it's a matter of "won't". Casinos want to make it as easy as possible to get your money into the casino, and as hard as possible for you to get your money out of it.

I never use it because I have more than enough credit, but wire transfers from my front account (that I only use for casino markers) are free and instantaneous. I could wire any amount to Bellagio right now and they'd give it to me immediately (in chips, of course), and they'd even pay the fee on my end if there was one. But if I want to wire back? "Nope, we don't do that, sorry."

They are of course more than happy to cash out my chips and put it in a safe deposit box there, but if I want to get the money out, I'm going to have to lug it out in paper bills. They know there are security issues, they know it's a hassle, they know I have to go deposit all that money at the bank, and since it's usually more than 10k, they know I'm going to run into IRS records. The point is, they want me to have to endure that.

I will not be at all suprised if a high roller at some point gets seriously injured or killed during a mugging on or immediately outside of casino property and a lawsuit is brought against the casino. It would certainly have a lot of merit. Heck, even if not injured - I'm no fan of NIED, but a lawyer could probably make a case.

I think the point is really that it could happen at ANY casino so naming and shaming doesnt really do anyone any good.

I'd also say these particular culprits are probably less likely to go back to that same casino now anyway if spendas mate could identify him as one of the guys at his table so easily.

Righteous Post. Thanks for the public service. I am always thinking along these security lines as I cruise the war zone known as Washington DC! Laughing

You can apply this big time in Atlantic City as well. One city block west of the Boardwalk and you can find yourself in hell! Sad

I truly endorse the valet action. You too can come and go like "the Hellmuth!" Laughing

Once again, thanks.

Thats why I stick to online gaming, apart from hackers...your pretty much not going to get mugged, unless you have a crappy hand on the river

yep, i've had better experiences in Vegas than AC. AC is extremely ghetto pretty much as soon as you walk outside the doors.

I intentionally wear a hoodie, sneakers, and jeans every time I go play, and since my bank refunds ATM fees, I just withdraw money at the casinos.

And i thought valet was common knowledge. Sheesh, NEVER self park your car when valet is free at almost every casino guys!!
