Well, confidence in my game is in the crapper after today. Between trying $50NL and my usual $25 I managed to end up down $90 today, wiping out all my last 4 weeks profit and ending up $20 down total since restarting.

I honestly have no idea if my game is just crap (I mean ffs, $70 profit over 7k hands at $25NL in 4 weeks if fairly pathetic really) but thought I'd post the biggest winning and losing hands of todays sessions here and see if I've just hit coolness or been playing badly.

My apologies for the hand format, for some reason the convertor can't handle cut and paste from out of PokerOffice.

These were either the biggest winners or biggest losers of each session, feel free to be as honest and beligerent as you want over how bad some of these were.

It really seems when I look over my sessions that I have lots of small wins (like getting blinds or maybe 4x BB but then have one really big loss with overplaying TPTK against a set or something that I just can't see) and it's starting to get to me especially when I see how quickly some people here can just fly through levels seemingly effortlessly while I am struggling to keep up a win-rate of like $20 a week :/

Hand 1: why are you betting the flop oop w/ an underpair to the entire board when the hand was raised pf with limpers already in? no set, no bet.

hand 2: why are you just calling w/ AK pf? dont you want to KNOW what yo may be up against. KK/AA (the hands you are really scared of) will RR back here, the rest i dont fear. and WTF with calling the cbet, and donk raising the turn?

i dont know if i need to look farther...its not variance.

It looks like you are trying to bluff in a small limit internet game. You don't have to be Phil Ivey to profit at these levels. If the players in Hand 1 are weak postflop I might bet out 1/2 the pot there but I would never call a raise with under pockets. The only way I would even think about stealing this pot is if when I started I raised from UTG (which I will do often with a middle pair on a tight table.)

I think you are betting to often to try to make yourself a stronger player. My suggestion is that you don't bluff 100$ NL unless you are in a small handed pot against weak postflop players.

I see a lot of spew with c-bets and TP hands and you aren't getting away from hands where you're running into resistance. Nobody's believing the hands you're representing.

Hand 1-- barring any kind of read, your stab at the pot got you c/r and you continued. Maybe it's weak tight of me, but I fold after the c/r. I shut it down if he just calls. The c/r is AQ, QQ or AA hoping you have a A.

Hand 2-- I don't understand the turn raise. I'd also RR PF. If he leads out on that flop after just calling you PF, I fold on the flop. He might have AJ or KJ. We expect a turn raise like this to make us money when we do hit a set or OESD; certainly it's going to lose us money as a bluff. I don't have the fortitude to bet the amount needed to bluff him off this hand, so I muck it. 2.5x his bet isn't enough to get him off TP.

Hand 4-- Why wouldn't you think he might have AK at least? You're only beating KQ here; is KQ really raising you on the turn? Hard to find a fold here with him so short, but that turn raise smelled bad. He clearly wanted to get his stack in there.

Hand 6-- more c-bet spew and bad board to do it on. Plus you have a gutshot that you want to try and hit cheap.

Hand 11-- showdown cheap! Give his position some respect. If you planned on folding to a river bet, why call the turn raise? Why bet the turn? You're only called if you're beat.

It looks to me like you're building pots with weak hands and draws OOP. Ratchet down the aggression/pick your spots better.

N.B. You're playing at bigger stakes than I do, so take/leave what you will from my rambling.

I may be, but the question here is should I be Smile

But nope, all the analysis is spot on it seems....lots of spewing, badly playing oop with c-bets or bad hands and not knowing when to let go.

Looking at my graphs in PokerOffice, the trend I am seeing is that my aggression pre and post flop have risen almost in direct correlation to my downswing. Seems I might be feeling like my game is going great, start pushing things I shouldn't be and that starts the slides...something I need to look into.

The only hands here that really piss me off are the ones like hand 9 and 11 where I get in there well and the flop just destroys me but it hasn't seem to be going the other way or the hands where they are playing utter trash and giving my raises no respect even if I'm sitting there at like 14/7 or something...yes, I know I should love these players but meh, they can bite me when they are nearly all hit and runners.

The main thing I need to get out of this though is to tighten the hell up when oop (UTG is my biggest loser out of the blinds now) and to stop whining about being down a whole $25 in total when we have guys like Gabe who know to just suck it up and keep plugging away.

I just need to play more hands and stop thinking I am awesome when I am up a bit it seems, keep working on my game and focus on where I am at the time.

It might not even be the stakes. The players at Stars are just a pain in the ass. Every once in a while I venture over there and 10,000 hands later at 10NL for 1.7BB/100 hands I'm wordering what the hell possessed me to try it again. It certainly isn't the Bonus.

As an Aussie, why are you playing at Stars? You've literally got the entire ocean of bad players to choose from, unlike us Americans. I long for the days of Crypto bonuses with RB. If you want to play 25NL, go for the Sun RB deal that FTR has (or is that no longer available?). Even if you just played breakeven poker, the RB and Bonus was enough to give a decent monthly return. The players at Crypto are worse than Stars (at least, they were before the US ban) and the tables aren't as tight (though there were fewer of them).

Main reason I was at Stars was that I had deposited about $50 there last year for the gauntlet and managed to run it up to about $280 playing sng's but still had deposit Bonus to go so I started that again for getting back into playing and had it up to aboiut $380 after the Bonus then hit this patch.

Apart from that, I have tried a few other places (eg Doyles Room, and it has a whole 400 people on when I look) and just played some Party due to reload Bonus but I don't like players not speaking english at the table during hands.

Not sure about the euro sites as I don't really want to worry bout trying to do the conversions from $Aus to $US to Euro's so I know what stakes I'm playing at but I may have to.

I think it's time to go whore a few sites that seem to be beatable at $25NL or so, see which I like and where seems profitable and then see if I can get my game going, though there is a lot to be said for playing tough players to improve your game...just doesn't help the BR and that's what I need to improve first.

In hand 1, I think I was trying to lose money cause pretty much any hand that calls the pfr is hit by that flop.

In hand 2 I think my play was influenced by having the A Diamond but my thinking now is that if I was trying to rep the flopped flush I should have raised the flop rather than the turn and when I didn't I probably should have just called the turn and seen if I hit the 4th Diamond

Looking over these, plus other hands, I just can't seem to work out how to rr with things like AQ/AK and still keep to just call raises with them cause I keep thinking that they are just drawing hands, not sure I can adjust that thinking.

I also seem to need a plan for what I am trying to rep...sometimes I do but others I don't. For example if I'm trying to actually rep the straight in hand 2 there is no point with a 3-flush there.

I just flew through pretty quickly, but from the looks of it, you're calling when you're being told you're beat in hopes of hitting your miracle card. When you're reraised, give a guy some credit and flod especially if it's very easy you're beat.

In short, you're making calls when you don't have the odds to hit your hand.

I think that is very close to hitting the nail on the head. I am still having trouble telling when I am beat and when someone is making a move on me. I am making a lot of calls though where hud is telling me I am still getting the right odds to draw but I think I need to reconsider that and start removing the odds for things like top pair, or straight draw when 3 flush on the board, etc.

I am trying to find the right balance between beleiving players and just folding everything and giving people license to bluff back at me after they see me believe them once or twice.

I have played in these games alot (on stars), and I have to say that I don't see alot of players making big bluffs and moves. They're a pretty passive, honest bunch in the main, and a raise, particularly on the turn or river, usually means a pretty strong hand.

Hand #1: Raise preflop. As played c/f flop. Definately fold to the reraise after you took a stab at it. When the PFRr c/r the flop, you are smoked. Even if you hit your mircale 8, it completes a straight draw, one of them completes a flush draw, and with this guy's line he could have a better set already anyway.

Hand #2: Reraise preflop. As played fold. If you're trying to float, give up on the turn instead of putting that expensive move on him.

Hand #3: Fold to the reraise preflop. There's nothing you can hit post-flop that will make you want to play in a reraised pot except a flush, but you defiantely don't have the odds for it nor would anyone pay you off if you hit it.

Hand #4: I tend to raise 4xBB+1 for every limper. Especially at lower limits. C-bet is fine. But fold to that turn raise. He's not afraid of the ace, and he cold called you on a very dry flop. He is not playing like this with KQ. You're up against a set or AK.

Hand #5: Fine.

Hand #6: Fine.

Hand #7: Fine. And ty God for idiots like this.

Hand #8: Check behind on turn, you don't want him doing what he did. Plus your hand just gained some decent showdown value. I would play it the way you did on the turn with top pair. Don't know if that's a good idea or not though...

Hand #9: Fine. Sometimes I bet the turn again depending on the player. I would have paid him off if it weren't for that ace on the river.

Hand #10: Fine if you like blind wars. I take a more passive line sometimes too though. Player dependant.

Hand #11: I c-bet the flop then shut down if he wants to keep playing. As played, fold to the turn reraise, even if it is a min raise you are OOP and don't want to pay another bet on the river.

All in all. Like I said previously, don't pay off their better hands with your crap hands only to see another street and then fold. A lot of the time you were drawing to hands that had no implied odds or bad reverse implied odds.

Also, don't worry about people bluffing you unless you have a reason to. If they start getting carried away, then consider putting them to the test with more marginal holdings. But let a guy bet you off ace high. Who cares? Keep the pots small until you get a monster.

Don't be like this one guy I played this morning. We had never played against each other before. I opened on the button with QJs to a 4xBB raise. He called in the small blind. Hit nothing on the flop, he checked, I c-bet, he called. Nothing again on the turn. He checked, I c-bet and he folded. He asked what I had, I naturally said AA, he said he had AJ. I asked why he called the flop, he said "I thought you were bluffing." The guy has never played a hand with me and he assumed I was bluffing. And even if he was right that I was bluffing, what's calling the flop going to do about it? Especially if he just checks the turn.

Well I exaggerated-- it was 3,600 hands for 2.42BB/100 in my most recent foray now that I checked.

Maybe that's too small of a sample to really gauge, but I found it painful-- especially with picking up FPP's/clearing the stacked bonuses so slowly and no RB. My stats there are 22/7/1.1 which is pretty much where I live at on UB and FTP where I'm 14BB/100 and 7.3BB/100 respectively at 10NL and on top of that there's RB and Bonus on those 2 sites (and don't forget that FTP rakes 10% at 10NL, so a much larger % of my winrate at FTP is going to the rake). My AF is a tad higher on UB and FTP but only to about 1.4-1.8.

For the most part I'd agree, but then there's stuff like this:

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (8 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

saw flop|saw showdown

MP1 ($3.45)
MP2 ($10.70)
CO ($2.10)
Hero ($9.20)
SB ($9.90)
BB ($18.65)
UTG ($8.55)
UTG+1 ($7.80)

Preflop: Hero is Button with Q, A.
1 fold, UTG+1 calls $0.10, 1 fold, MP2 calls $0.10, CO calls $0.10, Hero raises to $0.7, 2 folds, UTG+1 calls $0.60, MP2 folds, CO folds.

Flop: ($1.75) 5, T, 4
