how much does adjusting your thinking level to your opponents matter?

if so, how do you adjust? what are patterns/tells you look for to figure out, on which level villian thinks?

if in doubt, do you rate them as better or worse as they might be?

-it means the world. you have to know how your opponents think. it might be OK at a particular level where everyone is terrible to assume they are all equally retarded thinkers, but you still need to know.

-have you read theory of poker? theres a section on there that describes how to play in each type of game (loose passive, loose aggressive etc). that might help.

i get reads on people by looking at every hand that goes to showdown. when im 12 tabling i might not be able to check everyone, but every big that is semi-big i look at the hands. then i see how it was played and from this i start to get an idea how they play. doing this for 450k hands makes you a good hand reader.

-if they are unknown i usually assume they are bad.

-What do you expect a very good players winrate be at these levels:

.5/1
1/2
2/4
3/6
5/10

List these players in order, best to worst, in cash game play:
- Daniel Negreanu
- Mike Matusow
- Todd Brunson
- Phil Ivey
- Phil Laak
- Jenifer Harman
- Sam Farha

Aba said in one of his CR vids that 99% of HStakes hands are standard stuff, only 1% are the crazy shit you see.
Agreed?

How much are you up/down in the 25/50 games you play?

How big of a jump is it from 10/20?

-no idea. i think 5 is possible at all levels with good game selection though. 8 might be possible at .5/1 but i dont really know

-by cash games, do you mean NL holdem? from what i've seen matusow, harman and to a lesser extend farha seem like weak spots.

for overcall cash games its probably something like ivey, harman, negreanu, brunson, laak/farha, matusow

im up about 120k in the 25/50 games. its not that big of a jump, just need the BR. 5/10 > 10/20 is tougher because theres soo many more pure fish at 5/10, but 10/20 and 25/50 probably have close to the same amount

This thread's getting me excited about online poker again. I actually jumped to my bookshelf to grab ToP.

I always considered myself a better SH than FR player, but in my latest online stint, I've been break-even SH and a slight winner at FR. I noticed my VP$iP is a bit higher SH than yours. Could it be a major leak that I'm playing anything on the button first in and calling raises with straight gap-concept in position?

the biggest winners tend to be those who don't play for the money, but play for the game.

when did you realize that money was just a by-product of a fierce game?

you might just be results oriented.

i dont play 'anything' on the button but i do like to play alot of hands because its easy to pick up lots of unwanted pots
