A week from this Saturday I'm hosting the first, of what I hope to be many, tournaments at my house. This tournament will be rather big, I'm expecting about 20-30 people to show up. It seems especially big to me because I've never played in a house game of more than fifteen people before.

Anyway, I have the chip and table situation covered. What I don't have covered, though, is 20-30 extra chairs. I believe I have a whopping total of nine in my house, and two of them are PC chairs. So with that, I have a couple questions.

1) Where can I buy cheap (and I mean CHEAP) folding chairs? Nothing flashy, just something to sit on.

2) Should I just have people bring their own chairs, or barrow them from the people who usually hold the (smaller) games? "Bring your own" will work, but I know there'll be a couple guys that forget and that would suck.

What do you guys think? Hit me back with a reply...

P.S. After graduating college I threw out eight folding chairs, telling my parents, "WTF would I ever need these for?" How wrong I was.

Have people bring chairs. You will have a couple of people bring 4 folding chairs.

KMart had a deal a bit ago, buy 1 chair get the second for 50% off. They are decent chairs, I picked up 10.

Thanks for the fast reply, bro. I'll have to check out the deal at KMart. How much were the chairs for full price?

Best I've seen is $8.99 or $9.99 (can't remember which) at Wal-Mart.

What I was wondering, I guess, is that bringing chairs isn't something out of the ordinary? Like people won't come over thinking, "WTF, I have to bring my own freaking chair?"

Do people realy expect everyone to have 20-30 chairs laying around? Or for you to fork out that much to rent them?

Actually, to answer my own question, yes.. many people will. Or rather they won't bother to think about it before hand. However depending on how well you know these people you might be able to call a few up and they might have some suitable folding/lawn chairs they won't mind bringing with them. Another option might be checking out a church that you or one of your invitees might belong to who would be willing to lend them to you. The local fire station is another possible source (for more players too).

Tell them : "If you're not bringing a chair, you aren't sitting down."

at my regular home game, we all have to bring our own chairs. i built the table, but i live in an apartment so i store it at my buddy's house. he just bought the house and they don't have too much in the way of furniture, only about four dining room chairs so we ask people to bring their own. i ususally bring all three of my folding chairs just in case someone forgets, i'm sure some of your players will do the same. in any case, i don't think it's too much of a faux pas to ask people to bring them.

if you don't want to ask, you could always rent them as well. i used to work for a party rental company in central cali, and we rented basic folding chairs for about 75 cents a chair per day. i'm sure that there is something similar in your area. we used to drop them off and pick them up for a minimal charge, but if you have a truck you could easily put a stack of thirty in the bed. anyway, there's some options for you other than having to buy and store that many chairs. good luck in your game.

I had to have one of my players bring a folding chair last home game I had. He was happy to do it. (And he even had to take it on the train and walk 2 blocks with it to get here!)
