alright, i got a question, say your in a tournament and you want to get 1st place, to make up for all the money you've lost playing poker, this tournament will make up for all you've lost and then some. say a player puts me all in and the pot odds are in my favor, even though my pot odds are in my favor i'm still going to lose more than i'll win even though in the long run i'll make money instead of losing money, but when you are in a tournament you have to think about now you can't think about the long run, right? for example, my pot odds are say....7 to 1 and i'm on the turn for the river... hand odds being somewhere around 4 to 1 for a flush hand, even though in the long run i'll make money by calling but i can't think about the long run because once i'm out, i'm out. i don't qualify for the 1st place money because he put me all in. so my question is, when playing tournaments, do you guys still use pot odds to assess whether or not you should call or raise? when i say i'll lose more than i'll win...i'm saying that out of 5 times, i will win once, so seeing that i'll probably not hit the hand according to my hand odds probability, and also considering that this guy put me all in assuming that i don't hit, i'll lose, is there any better way to deal with this situation? or do you guys don't think of one tournament ...you think of the long term outcome, is this right? okay, sorry for talking so much, kind of hard for me to ask the question cuz kind of complicated for me to word it out. alrighty, thank you.

If you're properly rolled for the level you are playing these decisions become much easier.

However, in answer to your decision. If you know for a fact that you are 100Xs better than your opponent then you can probably wait and beat them later when you have a better edge.

Pot odds are not the only concern when you play Sng, survivability is a key factor, it is often correct to pass up small edges to increase your survivability skills, and sometimes you have to make EV- moves to increase your chance of surviving.

It is really situation dependant, but it is mostly on close calls

This is probably the part of your post you should be most concerned about.
Poker is a long term game, trying to catch up your losses in one tourney, one hand etc... is very EV-.

A critical skill for a successful poker player is proper Bankroll Management, without proper Bankroll Management you are virtually guarnteed to go broke sooner or later.

sure, today youll hit it big, but next year who really cares what you did today?

Everytime you take and edge your making money, remember that, it doesnt matter if your going to make $10 or $10000, the edges will add up

im not sure how ur hand played out,but if u checked then ur oppenent moved ai,and ur considering calling, why not move in first, put the pressure on him.you'll have two ways to win. pick up the pot there or get called and make your flush. hoefully. lol

This is one of the best tips I've gotten from FTR in the short time I've been here.
