I'm interested in what exactly it takes to "go pro"
I'm not an amazingly good poker player or anything like that, but i'm intrigued by the people here who seem to make money from it.
i mean, if you wanted to make a decent wage, how often would you have to play, at what limits, etc etc. I understand there is a fair amount of variance out there etc etc...but are there some people here just happy to pay the bills and put away a bit of savings?
so, if you don't mind...what's your story pro's? |

since you're posting in BC, I assume you're not actually real seasoned. You need
-a winrate and hours/day that add up to a living wage
-6 months living expenses (that means 3 X your rent/mortgage X 6) in reserve in the event of serious downswing.
-the hours you don't spend at table should be spent analyzing your game |

Example.
My br is 47k, my g/f has a job paying $2k per month. Our costs per month are 2.4k therefore i pretty much only need to make $400, but as it stands we simply cut the bill in half and save the rest.
Ive been playing since sept of 2004, and only got to the point where my br was large about 4months ago after i finished at uni. Im not really a 'pro' as many players on FTR are as i am actually looking for a job (cant find one) and will only play poker as a hobby after that until i reach a stage when i feel i can cover my costs and make more money than i can in other employment.
fwiw, i have played at least 800k hands, and i bet thats not a lot versus some of the pros here, and i dont have many recorded (maybe 250k, last 6-7 months or so)
to be a pro you need to be earning over $100 per hour mnimum and have a roll of equal standing (or so i am advised) |

Nice links, but "Reading helps" isn't needed.
Your first post was unnecessary and especially rude to a new member to our forums. In the future, if you think a post is repetitive and annoying, either ignore it or think of a better way to say "use the search function". |

Shut up and stop trying to be Mrs. PC. It's a question that has been asked 50 times around here and if you believe you couuld search for it and not find anything then you are just as ignorant as OP. |

Whats your problem? We are trying to create a polite and friendly atmosphere for discussing poker. If you dont want to be a part of that then just leave. |

I dont really agree with making atleast 100$/hour.
If u can make like 50$/hour and play4 hours a day , u make like 4k a month.Or if ur hourly rate is only half and u play 8 hours u make the same.U dont really need to earn atleast 100$/hour imo.
Btw bigspenda chill out. |

| Everyone of you are incredibly two faced. It's fascinating really. The searh function is not difficult to use. It's about as difficult as reading the frontpage and/or stickies. Don't bash me for saying what's on my mind, b/c you wouldn't want other people afraid to post questionable ideas/thoughts would you? Nah, that wouldn't create the best atmosphere for discussing anything. |

| No-one's being two faced. Calm down, look back at what you wrote and apologise to the MODERATOR - she's doing her JOB up there - before your rep suffers any further. |

Ok, I think everyone should calm down. We've all been there. Sometimes someone just hits the wall. Something rubs you the wrong way and you snap. Let's not jump on Spenda. He wasn't over the top rude in his first post. Read it again. He searched out the answers for the OP and posted them. Then made a smart ass comment, whoop tee do, everyone has done it. Also, if you had of left it alone the OP would have said thank you and probably asked another question.
| Courtie wrote: | | Nice links, but "Reading helps" isn't needed. | I also think that was enough. I don't think berating him in this thread was necessary either. Maybe if things aren't up to FTR's posting standards, the Moderators should start using the same decorum that they themselves preach. They have a delete function and PM's to do the job right. Maybe the new posters don't need to see any of these types of discussions.
Nothing helps if 12 people all come to the rescue of someone perfectly capable of defending themselves. Courtie didn't get to be a Moderator and an accomplished poker player with a bunch of guys running to her aid. Let her deal with it. And seriously, how does one post turning into twenty off topic complaints in the same thread show how great this place is supposed to be. Everyone is so quick to keep it from becoming 2+2 and all the bullshit, that it became just that. One comment and a gang mentality. And no, it's not a shot at anybody, I've been on the other end of this exact situation for a response to a post that I had just had enough with at the wrong time. Telling someone to "like it or Fuck off" doesn't do shit for this forum or the board in general.
P.S. Spenda has been in the chat the last week and a half every night, helping others, beginners and Vet's of this board. So he's not just some asshole with an opinion. |

No. He was slightly rude in his first post. He was over the top rude in his second post. Thats when people started reacting to it.
| bigspenda73 wrote: | | Everyone of you are incredibly...bla bla bla bla |
Say what you gotta say. Thats what makes this place valuble. Just dont be so rude about the way you say it. If you can come up with an argument for how
is constructive in any way then take your best shot. |

I'm not married, so it would be "Ms. PC". Thanks though.

I disagree. There was nothing wrong with anything I said in my post. In fact, it needed to be said and I think I was nicer than I could have been. |
