go with the 300BB rule for limit
30x buyin rule for no limit

if you're confident you're a good player than go with 200BB and 20x the buyin

300 big blinds is the usual guideline, sooo...100 / 300 = .33. So, a .25/.50 limit game would be fine (blinds of .25 and .10).

actually the 300BB rule is 300 big bets, not big blinds

Unless I'm wrong. Laughing

BB = big blinds in this case, not big bets, right? If it's big bets than I'm all screwed up...

Ack, I was wrong. Ok, strike that, so, micro-limits for $100 bankroll then?

If you are going to play NL, I would play at the .05/.10 level with a $100 bankroll. At Poker Stars the max buyin at this level is $10...It is pushing the edge a little bit (only 10x the buyin) but it is high enough stakes to keep you interested.

Words of wisdom from Fnord, who probably stole it from someone else:

Play at the highest level that you can beat while staying within your bankroll.

So, don't play any level unless you are sure (ie, have statistical proof) you can beat it. If you are new to this, start at the lowest level regardless of your br.

So, I've got 783 hands at .50/1 at Party and I'm at -2.79BB/100. Is that statistically significant enough to be concerned about or just variance? Fortunately tournament play has made up for the small loss, but should I start thinking about heading back to .25/.50 where I was at +11.55 BB/100 or stick it out a while longer?

(sorry for hijacking the thread, I love PokerTracker stat talk!) Laughing

I think that most of the guys will say that your sample size is too small...

It is probably just some adjustment variation to the new level. I'd give it some more time especially if you are breaking even with other play.

You might have some leaks that didn't show up in the lower limit but the new players are taking advantage of it.
