I was minding my own business playing some solid conservative poker towards the beginning stages of a multi-table tourny, on Empire $5,000 guaranteed. About 300 players began the tourney. Just after the first break I get dealt a pretty nice starting hand. Bullets
Now observe what is probably the worst poker I have ever seen anyone play. Which is why this particular beat was so hard to take.

After this hand I was probably the most heated I have ever been about a poker hand. No way this clown should have been calling me down. Are you freaking kinding me, calling a $550 flop raise on a gutshot str8 draw? I feel I protected my hand just fine.
If I did anything wrong in this hand please let me know, Thanks
Just hate putting a lot of time into a tourny to leave like this. Of the last 3 or 4 tournys I have been in I have always been ahead when I get my money in and have gotten outdrawn. Thats good to know that I am playing solid, but it sucks bigtime to lose in that fashion.
Of course this hand crippled me to just about the point of no return. I was down to $100, doubled up twice but I was out about 30min after this hand with the blinds at $100/$200 I went all-in for my last $275 with A,J offsuit and lost to pocket 5s.
Bad night for me. |

Looking at the hand history, I feel like I would have raised more preflop, but then again, I wasn't actually there, don't know how loose/tight people were playing, don't know what your table image was like, etc... Also, the exact amount is probably more a matter of playing style than anything else.
In any case, terrible beat. Just think of the times that you double up because some maniac misses his gutshot or backdoor flush and it is easy to see that you were the real winner on this hand. |

| Yea I wanted to raise 5xBB, but after the break for some reason the blind levels on screen weren't updated. Instead of looking at the chips in front of the blinds I was looking at the posted blind level. A raise to $150 was supposed to be a 5xBB raise. You can see on the history the posted blind level is 15/30, but if you look at the actually blinds on the table it is 25/50. I would have at least raised 4xBB if not 5xBB. Regardless if the guy knew how to play he wouldn't have called my raise on the flop, he was drawing to a gutshot. No way any player with any sense of how to play makes that call. He just happened to get lucky and pick up some more outs with the turn card and was willing to risk his entire stack on a draw. I don't see where I left him good pot odds to make any of those calls. |

How about we start a new forum called "Bad Beats (STBY)"
I will gladly moderate since can provide insight on how to aviod these. I haven't had an online bad beat in over a month... Conicidentally I haven't played online for over a month but I still think my plan works.
