Hi all Ive been visiting the forums for awhile now but here is my first post.

Ive been playing online poker for about a month now and lost 50 bucks right away playing .25-.50 limit ring games on UB and PokerRoom. At first, I thought I was just an idiot, but later on, I learned about variance, loose players sucking out on me and getting the lucky draws, but later on after that i found out I was just being an idiot and playing way too many hole cards, not respecting bets (seems like everyone at my level plays straight up), and not attempting to push people out when I had improving hands...

After that I went on a winning streak and almost tripled up my last 25 bucks playing .25-.50 on UB. Later on I went on tilt and washed that whole things right down the toilet. My winning streak actually hit while playing 6 handed games because I liked seeing more action and not having 10 people call me to the river. I played tight/agg during this time, pushing people around, folding to save losses et

Anyways, I took another 40 and went to Pokerrooms .25-.50 no limit and lost it. Right before I lost my last 10 bucks however, I thought I had it all figured out but then lost my money to a river draw. DAMMIT. Oh well shoulda had a bigger BR. I really liked no-limit however because I could bet out with strong hands, and get enough people to fold and enough to call that I could take some decent pots.

I look back just a month ago and I cannot believe I gave myself that much money to play with. I feel like I gave it to a child. Hopefully, in another month I will look back and think the same thing about myself today.

Finally I have decided to buy myself sklanksy and WLLHE for Christmas and eventually put another 50 in and get my shit together.

I have 2 problems however. First, I would love to practice with play chips online but its so loose in those games that I wonder if I am getting practice at all. My friends and I will buy a case of beer a couple times a week and play poker but since its usually only 4 handed and looser than online play chips (they piss me off) its more of a crapshoot there.

2nd, my 50 dollar investment is quite small and I need to build up some BR before moving back into NL, but I hate playing the micro limit games now especially with the craziness. I definitely do not want to put 500 bucks into my UB account quite yet. Hopefully I could just sit in on 3 tables and wait for great hands and maximize against these maniacs..

So, after all this crap youve just read, I have a simple question:
Where would you all start if you had 50 bucks to begin?

i'd give $25 to me and we could play the micro-limit games together haha Wink... but seriously if i had $50 i'd put it into PartyPoker and get the instant $25 Bonus, now you have $75... then i'd play micro-limits until i hit $100, then play the .10/.25 tables until you are dominating them... etc etc... i'd just play until i was dominating that particular $ value then i'd move up... also if you dont like the loose play in ring games, try joining some sit-n-go's (just little $5 if you want)... play is tighter there!

I agree with Sykedupp. Start with the micro's and do not move up until you are dominating them. Nromally I do not like the micro's becasue players tend to beerratic and call crazy raises down to the river hoping to hit inside starights. However, a $50.00 bankroll is too small to be at .25/.50.

Play at sit-n-go's does tend to be tighter than the ring games, but it takes a while to build a bank roll by only playing in sit-n-go's.

Ups and downs are part of the game, you have to have a bankroll sufficient enough to ride them out.

Paty Poker does not have micro limits, their lowest limit NL game is 25 buy in NL, blinds r .25/.50.

I'd play micro limit @ UB...

Hmmm.. thanks for the replies people. Yea I dont find the micro games to be too much fun or satisfying but I understand your point. The SNGs would be alot of fun but I have absolutely no experience with those and it almost seems like that would be another expensive schoolage of myself... What are the payouts at $5 SNGs and what would a decent ITM or 1st place finish be? Oh - how long do they run for? Id hate to get interrupted during one

NO!

Stay away from Party Poker. The $75 Bonus will do nothing to your BR especially when you already playing outside of it, at NL or not.

Put your $50 into Poker Stars, save the Party Poker Bonus until you have enough money to get the full amount.

At Poker Stars you are able to play the nickle and dime games until you build your BR and gain experience. Its easier to progress at Poker Stars and you won't lose multiply stacks. Stay away from Party Poker until you the have bankroll and the experience to play.

depends... a 5 person SnG will basically pay back the person in 3rd, 2nd place will get 50% more then they payed (bout $8 give or take) and 1st place would get something like $12 or $13... SnG's dont take too long if they are only 5 players (i play the SnG's at PacificPoker)... between 30-90 min... it really depends on how tight the players play... if you have 4 fish at your table, you can win in half an hour no sweat... if you have 1 fish and 4 sharks, you will need to play well to win... the $5 SnG's usually have more fish then sharks anyways so i'd go with an average of 45 min per SnG

He might be right, i never play PartyPoker anyways, i just knew about the $25 instant Bonus... PokerStars might be better, PacificPoker also has NL ring games at micro-limits

If I play a solid, tight game will I still be able to dominate these games? I know that by being aggressive im not going to be able to push as many people around at mirco limits.

Im sorry if some of these questions have been asked a hundred times, I know Ive seen them posted in different forums somewhere, I just cant recall all of the threads ive been through in the last few weeks.

stars is best because there is No Deposit Bonus to miss out on. and the nickel tables aren't as crazy as many people think they are. people actually do fold.

but the good thing is you are willing to invest money into books and reading FTR.

I disagree. My starting bankroll at PR is never more than 20 bucks(and it's usually 10). I've got the microlimits there dominated. On multiple occassions I've turned that 10 or 20 into 200-300 bucks.

I take my share of beats and bust outs...but the game isn't that hard to beat at this level.

the point of having a big bankroll is to prevent from going bust. even the best players can go on 100BB losing streaks. and if you're killing those 0.25/0.50 games i hope you've moved up by now.

PokerStars, definitely. they have cheap games for everyone and you can get better.

i have a question. why are you buying WLLH if you are a no limit player?

i originally wasted $100 at PartyPoker then realized i was doing something wrong. i put $50 into stars and have been playing way outside of my BR, but i'm getting better with more studying of the game and asking for advice at FTR.

Why move up, though? I've found a niche that is banking me a very comfrotable amount of cash. I COULD risk more money, but in the limit I'm currently playing, I minimize my losses while maximizing gains by playing against the fishiest of fish.

I moved up and won't be moving back down again. Sure bad streaks hurt more, but there are enough fish at the .5-1,0 level to have a significant edge. Its just easier to make MORE money and thats reason enough for me.

i'd rather take a 1BB/100 win rate at 10/20 then a 5BB/100 win rate at 0.25/0.50

Anyone with moderate LHE skills should strive to move up to 2/4 asap.

In answer the original question, I'd raise $200 and play the Party .5/1 game.

If one only makes 5BB/100 at .25/.50 and .50/1.00(limit or NL), one must not be much of a player.

Right now, if I had a reason to move up in limits, I would Smile

With your $50, I'd go to PokerStars OR Paradise Pokerand play the lowlimit games there to build. Good luck! Stay away from PokerRoom.com
