Post replies in the discussion thread.
Here are the results. We've got some really interesting stuff buried in there. I think this game is a pretty good representative of what a typical SnG looks like at a table full of solid taggs. There's also a few pretty excellent hands in there that go beyond solid ABC poker and are good examples of "playing the player."
In the future, it might be cool for people to use these games as an opportunity to experiment with their play and look at the results. For example, say you wanted to do some big raising often when you are UTG. Or you want to play all suited connectors. Or you wanted to pick a random player at the beginning and constantly put the pressure on them. Or whatever else you can dream up that might yield interesting results.
Special thanks to the players, and for all of the excellent observations put in the commentary. I apologize for my relatively short commentary, I wanted to get it finished ASAP after the game so I could send my commented file to fasin8ing who can verify the time and contents of what I sent so we know I'm not commenting based on what other people send me. (ie, in case I said something like "I knew he had AK here so that's why I laid it down.") Also, let me know if you are interested in participating in one of these in the future. It might become a regular thing if people like it. Enjoy & discuss!
FlyingSaucy
P.S.
Sorry about the raw-text look of this thing. In the future I plan to write a script to do the combining, and it will bold the hands that go to the flop and convert to the FTR images for suits so it's a lot more readable. For each hand I numbered the hands for future discussion, removed the chat, put hole cards next to preflop decisions, and tried to put the commentary in an order that made sense. I hope you enjoy and I look forward to hearing feedback on how I can improve the format of this, since I plan to write a script to handle future experimental sngs.
PPS You'll note that in the beginning we had 2 tables, that was a mistake but they were soon combined.

# Pre-game Thoughts #

| FlyingSaucy wrote: | | Well I went into this thing after a week of reviewing my HH and no playing, trying to learn my leaks. My plan is to sit back and let the others attempt to go laggy against each other, since I think the assumption will be that everyone is a tagg, therefore at least a few are going to be willing to take some big swings early and take advantage of the early tightness. |
| caesar66 wrote: | | Not much to say pregame. I was determined to play a little tigher than usual as I knew I would be facing 8 other solid players who wouldn't make many mistakes. Was going to try to play very straightforwardly, play my good hands hard, & fold all my garbage, especially early. |
| JeffreyGB wrote: | | Pregame thoughts: I figured that everyone was going to be rather taggy, so I intended to be as laggy as was prudent, picking up as many pots as possible on the frequent "no one really has it" scenarios. I did not think it would be worth while to play as tight as usual, because I didn't expect people to bust early, meaning that without big hands, we'd all reach push fold at about the same point and the game would turn into more of a gamble than I wanted. Starting off short-handed only exagerrated this thought. |

Led out the turn with my draw, and the raise was just enough for me to call with drawing odds still. Probably should have check/called to keep the pot small. River's a blank, I'm not going to bluff it. |
| courtiebee wrote: | I doubted this was a steal with a bad hand, but I thought he was capable of raising with a large range of hands. The main reason I called was because he didn’t raise very much and I had decent odds to call with a suited ace.
On the flop, I had TPTK, a decent enough hand to bet with and see if Saucy’s check was weakness. When he simply cold-called with the flush draw on the flop, I was very sure I had the best hand. I don’t know why he bet OOP on the turn, it looked really strange to me and I was surprised when he called my raise (although I think I should have raised a bit more). I checked behind on the river because I doubt he calls with anything I beat. |
| JeffreyGB wrote: | | I don't think I like the turn call here. The OESD is only going to make it 17% of the time and you have no way of knowing if your other outs are even good (I'd count them each for 1/2 an out). 11 outs = 22% -> 230 is quite a bit to call. |

| fjuanl wrote: | | First of all, 99 5-handed is a really strong hand. Saucy had been adjusting to shorthanded play and should have a pretty wide range here. Even though I'll be out of position, I felt like a reraise was the best play because (a)there is a chance Saucy folds and (b)I'm putting more money in the pot with (what I thought) was the best hand. Flop was bad for my hand but misses a lot of hands Saucy calls my raise with. I get pushed over the top and I'm about 80% sure he has me beat here. I've shown a lot of strength by re-raising preflop and then leading at the flop, most people aren't going to shove over my bet without an ace. It would be a gutsy move to shove in with a flush-draw, but it might be a decent play if he knows I'll fold 99-KK and only call with AK and AA. Still, there's no reason to be risking most of my chips here. |

| fjuanl wrote: | | The limp was kinda strange by Saucy since he?s only been raising or folding. I felt like a 4xbb raise was big enough here, so I made it 80 with KK. The flop is pretty good, but there?s some possible draws out there, so I decided to lead out for 120 into a 180 pot. Saucy called my continuation bet which surprised me. I still don?t really know where I stand, but I felt like I should be good because I?d expect Saucy to raise preflop with 33-55. I think most of the time Saucy has a flush draw or just is calling to see what I?d do on the turn. The turn completes a straight for a 7 or a 2, which could be bad. I think it would be pretty rare to see A7 or a deuce from Saucy (77 would have been raised preflop). I was thinking of check/raising but if Saucy bets into me, I really don?t know where I stand, so I decided to keep betting and got a fold. |
| FlyingSaucy wrote: | | This hand really bugged me. If only I had raised it up preflop I feel I wouldn't be in such a vulnerable spot when it comes to reads postflop. I felt he either had a higher PP or hit trips. Maybe I'm way off, the nice thing is that I'll get to see! I probably should have raised his flop bet, which could very well be a cbet with AK or something. By the time I made my preflop non-raise mistake, and my flop non-raise mistake, I'm already in a hole strategically by the turn, despite having positional advantage the whole way. |
| JeffreyGB wrote: | | In retrospect, this call was likely a waste of chips. The only players in the pot were from my first table, so I felt comfortable being loose to see what happened. |

The minraise out of the small blind is both alarming and confusing at the same time, but I have a pocket pair and it's an easy call when heads up, and I'm in position. The flop is relatively good for me - low cards and a paired board. SB bets out a little over half of the pot and I have to decide here if my hand is good or not. I do not like just calling here, because the next card is most likely not going to help me, and might improve his hand. So I'm either going to reraise him here or fold. My read tells me that he either has a pocket pair, which is most likely higher then my low pp. or that he's c-betting with high cards. I'm not feeling like it's a good spot to invest any more chips into the pot (even if he is only c-betting), because it's too early in the tourney, so I fold. He shows pocket aces and I'm glad I didn't re-pop him. |
