In your 28 Oct play-by-play, you discuss the semi-bluff.
Question:
Is it wise to do the semi-bluff after the Turn? Or is it only sensible to do it post-Flop? |

In that particular example, I actually hit my card on the turn, so what started out as a semi-bluff turned into a made hand, so my turn bet was based on the pair of aces with the 20% probability of still making the nut flush.
But in general, you could still attempt a semi-bluff on the turn but it is much more risky. If you attempted a semi-bluff on the flop and your opponent called, then he may have a decent hand. To attempt another semi-bluff on the turn may lead to the same result: your opponent still calling. You can still put out the semi-bluff bet if the bet relative to the pot odds provide a positive expected value.
You will need to combine the probability of hitting your outs plus the probability of your opponent folding (plus the probability of your opponent chasing a weaker draw hand and hitting). |

Yes. That makes sense.
I wasn't actually referring to your particular scenario, though. What if everyone has checked after the Flop, but then I have a straight draw only after the Turn?
Would this be a good time to semi-bluff? I understand it's riskier since I only have one more chance left (River) to complete the straight.
I'm guessing that it might still be alright to semi-bluff at this point, but with a bet that's a smaller percentage of the pot than if I were to semi-bluff after the Flop.
Yeah? |

| Yeah, I think that strategy is sound. After the turn, and everyone checks to you, you are really looking at buying the pot at that point. If your straight is open-ended you have a 17% chance of hitting your river card. But combined with the odds of everyone folding (depending on how many players are in, the general play of the table, etc) betting at this point could be a good move. If your bet is less than 17%, you'll be getting good odds with any callers, if you bet is more, then you probably have a better shot at buying the pot. You'll have to weigh these options during the battle. |

Those're actually the coordinates for King Harbor (Redondo Beach). I don't have a GPS reader, so it's the closest I could find online to my house.
Have you played the Donkey Kong emulator (click "PLAY")?
It's fun... and it's FREEEEEE! |

That java emulator is nice. It took awhile to load but the wait was worth it. It looks just like the arcade game but you don't lose quarters |
