I live in Washington State. I have recently realized that online gambling just might be illegal in my state.
I have done some research, and it is. I was wondering if anyone has taken this into consideration, I'm pretty sure other states have similar gambling laws. Another reason why I have taken a moment to think about this is because I am under the legal age of gambling in the US (21 years).
I will be 21 in 5 months, so that isn't that big of a deal. But if online gambling is illegal no matter what, than it doesn't really matter how old I am.
What I don't understand is, if it is illegal, then why did I see a local news segment about online gambling. They interviewed someone making money gambling online, they never once said anything about it being illegal. (The guy is a resident of WA.)
Here is a small section I found from the Washington State Gambling Commission website.
"Also, people in Washington State who place bets on the Internet can be charged with Professional Gambling in the Third Degree, which is a gross misdemeanor."
This makes me think twice about gambling online, but I don't think I can stop. Will someone shed some light on this issue? Thanks. |

ask your local DA's office w/ an anomonous phone call or meet him. Or ask a lawyer to get the correct things on it.
Gambling such as video slots and black jack or gambling as in poker like stud and holdem? |

Of course, we all know only two of these activities is truly gambling. |

I'm referring to poker, texas hold em to be exact. And the site I play on is based outside the US.
I will call the local DA from a pay phone tomorrow as I'm very curious about this.
I will reply after that. |

The State has better things to do than prosecute "gamblers". They will only take an interest in the "house." You only need to worry if you are running a card room or raking your home games. Then the State takes an interest.
The only real place you can run into trouble is with Uncle Sam. The IRS may one day crack down on internet gamblers. |

| BTW a misdemeanor is like a parking ticket. You won't go to jail. Pay the fine from your gambling winnings. |

Thats up to the cops discretion whether to take you to jail over a misdemeanor or not. But a ticket / gambling online if it is illegal will only fine you w/ no jail time. |

You mean not play online poker, or not worry about the legalities?
Did you talk to the DA? |

| online gambling is illegal in most states. Have you ever noticed that all these online casinos are based overseas. It can also be looked at as money laundering. |

| Unless the law around you says "online "gambling" is illegal" then there is always a lop hole tough it. Live games around here are not legal especially if the host makes a profit... hence to say I have had a couple close calls when it comes to getting arrested for playing poker. umm like 3 or 4 times actually, ohh well first offence is an over night thing basically, and the money you have in the game can be confiscated (sucks if it's a high money game), but other then that not really a big deal... now running a gambling house (sort of like a casino) is a felony where playing is a misdemeanor. At least that’s how it is in Ohio, from what I could dig up. |
