This thread started as Operation 75k. It has since progressed to bigger and better things.

My new Dell and dual Samsung 20" SyncMasters arrived today and since I seem to have convieniently found myself with 3 and a bit months summer hollidays and no "real job" I guess I should set myself a bit of a challenge.

The plan is to try and make $75,000 between the time I finished my exams a week and a half ago and the time I have to go back to college in October. So far since I finished I've played almost 29,000 hands of 200 and 400NL 6max and I'm up $9700. Hopefully I can keep this up.

I can't remember the stuff that happened in the last couple of days so I'm just going to call this day 9 and go from here. Wish me luck please!! Confused

My BR just after I finished my exams was about $9000 I think. So I have to get to $84,000. Here we go...

Day 9

Spent like the whole day getting the new PC set up so didn't get to play much poker. 6 tabled 400NL for about 2500 hands and I'm up $2600 so it wasn't a complete waste. Feeling incredible relief after my $3000 downswing yesterday and the day before. Thought that one was never going to end.

Bankroll is now ~$18300.

Here's a hand that scared the bollox out of me earlier. I'm not used to doing this type of thing since I just moved over from playing really passive FR.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

saw flop|saw showdown

Hero ($494.10)
MP ($557)
Button ($434.20)
SB ($415)
BB ($236.10)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with J, A. SB posts a blind of $2.
Hero raises to $16, 2 folds, SB (poster) raises to $51, 1 fold, Hero raises to $150, SB calls $97.

Flop: ($304) 7, 2, 7 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero is All-in (~$350), SB folds.

Final Pot: ~$660

Very Happy That one felt good.

Day 10

Played nearly 4000 hands of 400NL today for a whopping grand total profit of $87. On the plus side though I found out that I'm able to 8 table 6max, pity it was for no money. Breaking even sux.

I'm going to a party in about an hour to get drunk for approximatly the whole weekend so I prolly won't get to play much tomorrow. I'll see if I can fit a few hours in between hangovers.

Br is now: $18420

I know everything is relative to the stakes you play at, but from a $25NL guy's perspective I found this statement funny and it made me sad at the same time.

Sigh, maybe some day I'll be in that boat and can despair over only making $2,600 in a days work. Lol.

lol, when I said that I ment it to be pretty tongue in cheek. A $2600 payday is a big thing to me too make no mistake. I just try to never get excited about things like that because basically I would panic and withdraw the whole lot. Keep in mind that I spent days 7 and 8 losing $3000, I'm still -400 for that 3 day period.

Day 12

So pissed at myself right now, sat down a few seconds ago with a huge hangover, still wearing the clothes I wore out last night and slept on a floor in, in some house where there was a party and donked off almost $400 in 21 hands. I'll put in a good session tomorrow, now I'm going for a shower and a pint of ice cold milk.

edit: busted 900th in the Sunday Million. -$215

Br stands at $17846.

Day 13

Holy shit I just lost 2k in under an hour. I'm going away to die right now, see you in a while.

Ended off the day down nearly $3000. I feel like shit. I also am having serious doubts about my ability to play 400NL profitably. I'm now down to 1.5ptBB/100 after 23,000 hands and I just feel like I'm getting outplayed more often then I outplay others. I'll sleep on it and see how I feel in the morning.

Downswings suck bro, but try not to get down on yourself. A really good friend of mine who plays 5/10 and 10/20 on Party and is very successful (may be one of the biggest 2/4 winners ever) has had far bigger downswings in much shorter periods of time than that. Poker is very brutal and many underestimate the short term luck factor involved. I suggest that you take a break for a little while and come back refreshed.

The other day I'm positive it was you who I stacked at 200nl. The hand went down like this, you raise on the button, I reraise with AKs, you call. Flop K44 two clubs, I bet you call. Turn 7, I check you push, I call. You have 97c and miss the river. Actually that hand is in the video I posted in the SHNL forum, about at the 24:00 minute mark. Just thought I'd bring this up for no reason. Anyways, best of luck to you my friend, I hope things turn around for you. I'm currently on an upswing that came right after a downswing that came after an upswing. It never ends. Sad

Day 14 and 15

Thanks for the comments guys. I was just pissed because I knew that alot of the losses were due to downright bad play and not just variance.

Came back today and went on an absolute bender of a poker marathon. Racked up almost 7000 hands of 400NL for a profit of about 1.2k. I was dealt lots of beats all day though which ate up alot of my profit, I don't mind losing to beats in the slightest though. Still made some silly mistakes, theres lots of things I need to work on.

Br: $16173

So an average working day (incl. commute, let's say) for $1.2k (works out at 2.15PTBB/100) - I could live with that. Gg.

Day 16

K, I made a pretty big decision today and decided to withdraw $10,000 from my account and move back down to 200NL. I just felt like I was getting killed at 400NL and it wasn't just variance, I was getting outplayed plain and simple. When I play 200NL I just feel way more confident and the whole thing is much easier. I needed to withdraw that cash at some stage anyway because it's to pay for college next year and I figure that if I'm moving back down then I don't need a 16k bank roll.

So, at the moment my br is $6000. The plan is to 200NL it back up to $12,000 and then take another shot at 400NL and beyond. It shouldn't take me too long to get back there I don't think, especially if I keep playing as many hands as I have been.

Sounds sensible and well thought out. Whatever happens, thats $10k for real life you wouldn't have had otherwise. Also, convert them dollars quick, they're going to do a Weimar Germany over the next 12 months Smile
