First time I've left a table three buyins up Smile

Today I reached the 1000$ mark. Actually I probably have an extra 100$ lying around in neteller/pokerstars that should be in my roll, but I decided to start fresh at 500$ a few weeks ago and keep proper records of my bankroll.

Now I have the bankroll to play 50NL (although I cheated and started 50NL yesterday to get started with the Betfred Bonus).

May was my first profitable month. +5.28 BB/100 at $10 NL on Ultimate Bet.

atm constantly finishing in the money at $2.50+.25 and $5+.50 SNG (last night 7 in 10)

Hi,
I started playing NL about 2 week ago, and I really enjoy it. I started playing cash games about 3 or 4 days ago. Right now I have a bank roll of $20 down from $350. It's about what I expected, but I realize now the mistakes I was making were not what I thought. I finally understand what tilt is, and realize that even though I didn't think I was angry, I constantly gave up money after losing a few pots. Anyway, great site and I started playing 6 hand NL sit n go and have done fairly well today.
I've wone 1, 2nd once, lost 2. I've learning to leave tables after I'm up as well. I play on Party Poker in the micro rooms, and now I leave a room whenever I am up, even if it is a negligable amount. It's really helping me learn when to quit.
Ok, I'm babbling so I'll stop writing in a moment. I know I have a lot to learn, I don't think that I have any skill (maybe a slight knack) for this game and I really need to practice and read to get better. I hav ADHD really bad so when I find something I am niterested I dive in as fast sa possible. I'm at the point in the freeroll tournaments where I usually finish at about the 50% mark of entrants, and I see that I really need to work on my patience. Now I'm done, I really like your site and look forward to learning much more about poker. I have one question if anyone can help me out. I'm sure it's been answereed but I'm lazy right now and want to get back to poker. Any reccommomendatons on sites that you can play for free with live people who actually care if they are playing well or not? I've read a few bad reviews of the free money play on Party Poker (the only site I use right now) and would like to find somewhere to practice against people. Excuse my Ramblings and thanks for this great site.

Playing freerolls isn't really a great benchmark to test your skill against. Don't get disheartened because you're busting out in them.

Playing with play money will get you nowhere. Noone takes it seriously. If your bankroll is that low, take it to PokerStars or a different site where they have microstakes, as Party only has 25nl up after a while.

Thenk you very much for the advice. I know my biggest problem is that I love jumping into anything I find interest in. I'm using self-control a lot better. Here's how I did today:

managed to finish around 200 out of about 8000 in a free roll (I understand what you mentioned about not using it as a benchmark)

tilted on a $10 10 seat SNG
finished 1,2, and 4th in 3 6 seat $6 SNG's

I'm sticking to the .02 and .05 tables from now on. There are a lot more people with at least mediocre ability in the higher stabkes tables. Oh yeah, I've only been playing in the begginner tables as well, still have a weeks to use them.

My plan now is too read as much as I can, and practice implementing what I learn, before I go back to playing at higher stakes. I do enjoy playing the freerolls though, they are good for a laugh sometimes. Any reccommendations on free software to track my playing history? I read somewhere about a decent free program, just can't remember the name. What I found today is the freeroll tourney's help me learn patience, since they run for extended periods of time. I'm going to buy a book in the next few days as well.

so thanks again, and I'm happy to say my bankroll ($50 deposited yesterday) has gone up to 74 and has only dropped to 64 today. For me ths is better than usual. In no way do I think I understand this game well, and cannot wait to really start learning more.

Skreeter, you should be looking to play 10,000 plus hands at microlimits before moving up, and even then onlhy if your roll has grown sufficiently. I admire your attitude and your enthusaism, but you need to be absolutely sure you will have the vast reserves of patience and discipline poker unequivocally requires. Poker is played absolutely in the long term - a winnign hand or a winning session means NOTHING in the greater scheme of things.

Just now I played a couple of $25NL tables after nopt playing for 10 days. I lost $40, half of which was a hand where I had 88, hit middle set, managed to get all my oppo's money in by the river which gave him a set of queens and the pot. I patted myself on the back for my strong play and moved on to the next hand. If this doesn't make sense to you, you still have a lot to learn. If it does make sense to you, you still have a lot to learn. This is a game of experience - after 100,000 hands I consider myself a decent beginner.

Good luck with it all and remember, keep learning, listening, reading and experiencing and you might become a winning player. It may sounds patronising but it's god's honest truth.

Had an exceptionally good day two days ago, so i thought i'd share.

I mostly play $5+1 sit n go's but i decided to enter a $2 buy in tournament at PartyPoker. Not only did i make my first final table appearance, but i CAME FIRST!!! $226 yeah!

I've been playing online for about a month now, and everything i've learnt has been from flopturnriver, and i feel like i'm getting there slowly.

keep up the good work guys, and i'll let you know if i achieve my next goal. I've got a bet with my girlfriend....if i turn $50 into $1000 in 30 days, she performs unspeakable acts on me!! so far it's 5 days, $50 is $369, and i'm feeling good!

Congratulations to all who have gone before, my achievement is pretty modest but I won my first sit and go last night, a $6 buy in on PP! Was nearly out twice but came storming back, I really enjoy the tournament format. Made up a bit for losing 2 buyins at my first attempt at ring play. Even though I had done some reading and thinking and know about starting hands and position, I play horribly post flop. I can protect my top pair from being drawn on or draw myself if the pot odds are favourable but second pair? 2 overs? I don't have a clue what to do haha and I'm hopeless at putting people on hands. This is $25nl on PP and I think it's too much for me at the moment, I guess trying another site with micro stakes would be better for me? Anyway thanks to everyone on this site who has offered their advice, it's helped me a lot!

Thanks for the advice, I just can't help myself but jump into something I find interesting as fast as possible. I've calmed down a lot, and have a few books on the way. I find playing in the MTT tournaments, even the freerolls, really helps me learn patience. I managed to finish around 40th in a $1 tourney today on Party Poker. I'm not just dumping money into these sites like I did when I first started playing. I'll update when I start to actually learn something.

Hit 2k today. Even though I'm now officially rolled for 100NL, I'm gonna stay at 50NL as I only have booked 3000 hands there. I'm probably withdrawing some cash from the roll, as very much of it has been from bonuses/referrals and not from "real play". I believe that my roll will grow sufficiently from play alone before I feel ready to move up.

Still, it feels really good to hit the 2k mark Very Happy
