Flop comes (8, 2, 3)... you are first to act
should you bet? and what should do you if you get raised? |

If your bet might win you the pot right there. I usually check and figure out if I'm folding raising or calling based on the action.

Probably fold. Maybe peel one and then fold unimproved. |

anyone with two overs will call your one bet, unless the table is exceptionally tight, or the pot is so small nobody cares if you steal it.
with a 5 kicker i would not bet the 8s. especially multiway. i would see the turn for free and then if it happens to be lower than an 8, i would bet/check-raise to end it there.
more often what happens is the turn is an over and you just wasted your money on the flop.
