I have a friend, he is actually only 17 years old but he's been playing since middle schools. He plays pool more than he plays poker, but he likes poker too. The other day, I was at a party, him and I and a few others, we decided to play a poker game. It came down to heads-up between him and I and he wooped me.

so after the party we sat down and played a few play hands and I played them how I would normally play them. He read me really good on every hand. Baised on a few second hesitation he could tell what card I had on one example. Even trying to slowplay him didn't work. Some of them took him awhile. (so long it would be impracticle in a real game)

However, this slaughtering I believe was becuase of two things, him being really really really good, and me being quite bad. I'm not sure if i should be just like a robot or what, I'm thinking about being like Phil Ivey.

any tips?

Wear some sunglasses and put a bag over your head (or if your toasty a clown mask). Oh make sure not to breathe.

Seriously though, there are could be dozens of reasons why they can read you so well. Mike Caro's book of "Poker Tells" is a good read. For me, I began to start thinking of what I am possibly doing that is giving away my hand and thats a good first step.

Haha, speaking of obvious ... isn't that like asking someone who lost something where they last hand it?

By the way, Nick, I was about to reference you to a recent thread on this exact same subject ( http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2498 ), ... when I realized that you started that thread as well ...

Maybe its nothing to do with your expression, well possibly of course, but maybe your betting is the problem. I have the ability to judge delay pot amount and think about previous hands, and take accurate guesses at what people are holding. I can do this much sooner than i pick up on any other tells, like breathing ect. My friends don't understand how i do it, and maybe your friend is the same way. To beat it, maybe raise the exact same amount every time? At the danger of sounding arrogant, which i don't mean to, i can even follow illogical bets of times people are simply trying to mess me up, because i know i'd be trying to do the same thing =P Anyway sorry its not much help, but don't just look at your breathing/eyes/body language as where he may be getting his read, it could be your bets as well.
