| I've only played at Taj and Bally's. Never been to Borg or Trop. Bally's has a small room with maybe 20 tables but on weekends they spread a NL game $100 min $300 max buy in. Blinds were only $1/3. I crushed the game last time I was there. Of course the cards helped. |

Trip report from AC 10/9/04
Got up really early, met up with a buddy to do the 4 hour drive up to AC.
Arrived at the borgata and immediately found a great 10/20 limit table which I crushed for +$650 over the next four hours. Decided to take a break and grab some grub, so I got on the dinner list* (very important...take a break, take winnings off the table, come back and get sat ahead of the wait with a standard buy in). This works well, except when you come back and have a 4 hour cold spell and lose all the profit and then some.
I request a table change to another 10/20, preferrably with some fish on it, and recover slightly, only to be on a roller coaster ride the rest of the night till about 4 am. end up being up 250. Take a cab over to ballys where I crush the game.....1/3 NL, 300 max....extremely loose, and I get to smoke at the table. the only downside was the cocktail waitresses are on strike and it took 1.5 hours to get a bottle of water.
After this, I head over to tropicana, where I decide I'm just going to stay awake....who needs sleep anyway. I hit the 7.50/15.00 game, also known as the pink game because it only uses pink $2.50 chips. Its running 5-6 handed and ridiculously loose.....needless to say I lose my ass to the tune of 350. The last hand I play, I get aces.....raised to me, i reraise, she caps.
Flop comes J high.
She bets, I raise, she reraises, I call.
Turn, junk
she bets, i raise, she reraises, i reraise, she reraises.........I suddenly figure it out. F'cking Jacks. Always get me in trouble, whether I'm holding them or against them. I go into check call mode, and see her flopped set of jacks at showdown. Ouch.
No more pink game for the Chef!
After this brutal beat, I play in some 1/2 NL for most of the rest of the day, and I recover somewhat, mainly thanks to this hand:
Ballys 1/3 NL 300 max--
Me button with KTo, limp in
flop comes 10 7 3 rainbow
One guy bets 20, I raise to 60, he calls.
Turn 10
checked to me, I bet 150 (intentional overbet, as I had seen this guy bullying the table for the last few hours with his overbets) he pushes all in for another 125. I call. He says "you have a boat", I say No, he says " you have a 10", I'm like of course I have a 10, what do you think I've got, and he says "you might be good then", thats good news as I was just praying he didn't turn over A10. He asks the dealer for a little river miracle which doesn't come, I show my hand and scoop the pot. Nice!
I end up +600 for the weekend which isn't too bad considering how damn tired I was. Slept the entire ride home. Now I'm suffering for my lack of sleep, but hey, I love the action.
Heading back up next weekend. Anyone going to be up there?
-Chef
p.s.-- favorite quote of the weekend "....yeah, but they were suited....." to which at least 2 schmucks at the table will be nodding along with when seeing J2 take down a monster. |
