I won a ticket today to the Sunday $500K on Stars through an 18 man satellite. I am asking for suggestions on how to play through each level. I am assuming it's the same type of strat for any other tourney, but I thought that I would check with everyone to see if I am missing anything.
What should I be thinking about throughout each level of the tourney?
Thx |

Dependant on bankroll, you should consider unregistering and taking the T$.
If you play, DO NOT THINK IT TO BE DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER MTT. As michael1123 says, having a different mentality leads to one's downfall in a major MTT. Just play it like you would any other MTT and you will be on your 'A' game. |

Good advice, thx. My combined br on two sites is roughly $1K. Do you or anyone else recommend taking the $215? I'm sure someone here would love to buy it. |

It's entirely up to you. If it were me, I'd probably take the $215 and use it on other tourneys, 20% of your bankroll is a lot.
But I won't tell you what to do, as it is up to you. |

I'd take the T$. You can then either sell it to CashManBrian for approx 190 in real cash, or use the T$ for SNGs and other tourneys.
If you want to treat yourself to a big tourney, why not use it for a 100 dollar tourney and use the 115 for bankroll building SNGs. How much did you invest to win the tournament |

It was a $13 + $1 SNG satellite. Good idea about the $100 tourney. There should be less players in a $100 tourney. I have this idea that I could make it to the FT in the $500K. Is it a little unrealistic? |

| Just unregister and play sit and god with the money. $215 is way too much money to a 1k bankroll. |

When aces says take the T$ I need to listen. SNGs? What should I play $20 single tables? Higher or lower? 15% of my br is $150 and 5% of my br a night would be $50. Is that right? |

Yes play 15+1 turbo sit and gos. You can play as many as you want of them in a night. None of this 5% non-sense. |

Got the 5% from Davsimon's strat. What about the 180 SNGs. Too much variance? Just stick to the single table? |

| Just play 15+1 turbo sit and gos. Dont play anything else until you get to at least 5k. But you probably wont listen to me. If I were you I would play nothing else until I had 5k to my BR. |

I will listen. It is just so hard to pass up these tourneys when you see what the FT pays out. Can you give some positive reasons why you suggest 15+1? Thx aces for your help. |

You're going up against 3000 players and this is the toughest field of any weekly online touranment. If you're going to play just cashing should be considered a win for you. |

Play the 180 SNG's
If you have any where near my luckboxx you'll be fine. From what ive seen if you can play, especially just enough post flop then these become a potential to win some big cash.
Gotta take the 200 on a 1k bankroll, thats 5 buy ins to the 22 180's if u only bank half for the roll. |

I have had better luck with the 180 than the 15+1 turbos. The turbos just seem like a crap shoot to me. Everybody goes all in. I will give both a try. |

It's not, but I find playing the flop just doesn't happen. Not much to it except get a big hand call a push and pray. |

Have you ever looked back at your posts and realized how dumb you were? Man, I was so stupid when I wrote this. I have now realized that this is how you play these things. Stupid, stupid, stupid. |

Wait a minute... someone clarify?
You won the Entrance to the 500K stars tourney and that win also PAYS your Entrance?
How does it work?
I never played any of the lower priced satelliutes cause I thought they just qualified you for the big game, and you paid the entry. since I play very low stakes, I never threw that money down for the qualifier knowing I couldn't afford the big game. |

Yes most if not all sattelites pay your entry, sattleites to live tournaments pay entry+hotel+spending money etc....
Nothing really just qualifies you, maybe a special situation here and there. |

Anyone can play as long as they pay the buy-in. A satellite is cheaper tournament that pays entry into a more expensive tournament. Ex. If you win a satellite to the $1 million guaranteed on PokerStars then you are awarded the buy-in amount to play that tournament. |

It sure does. You get tournament (T$) dollars. You are auto. registered into the tourney. You can however take out the T$ and use it to play other tourneys. It's not real money but you can use it to make real money. |

First of all, it's $1 Million guaranteed every week now. Secondly, if you ever get a chance to play in this thing, it's truly an awesome experience. What happens is you notice the difference right away because low blind levels are being folded down over and over again. No one is gambling. There's a lot of limping and small pots never going past the flop. No one really starts playing poker until about the 50/100 level. Stacks grow gradually. You'll see at the 100 BB level that high stack will only be about 7 or 8K, and average stack will be about T3500 to T4000.
One difference I see here from lower tourneys is that every person with chips uses it as a weapon. In other tourneys, you really only find a small sampling of people who use chip advantage effectively. Now you can count on any person with a good amount of chips competing for table captain. As with any paradigm you encounter, there are counter strategies to use against people in this tourney. I certainly haven't found them all, or even a significant amount, but in general you have more fold equity to work with if you know how to use it, and you have bullies putting in bad money, if you know where to break it off.
I got caught up in one situation last week that showed me a slight difference. I was on the button with 76 suited spades, with one mid position fair stack limper in back. I decided to raise here on an isolation position play, thinking maybe the limper was weak, and I could extract some chips on continuation if he called. He did call and the flop came out 7c 2h 9c. I flopped mid pair on a club draw board. He checked and I bet about 900 into an 1100 pot with 2100 behind. He instantly pushed having me covered. I really didn't want to go this deep here for obvious reasons, but decided this was a call I had to make, since I was very sure I was still ahead, and now I was getting better than 2-1 on my money. He flipped over JT of clubs, and away we go. HOLY SHIT I'M AGAINST 19 LIVE OUTS! The son of a bitch was even money. I was very fortunate to win the hand, but this is the kind of thing that happens. People are smart. They count their outs and play for stacks. It gets aggressive. |
