Wynn Poker Room

I posted this in another topic, but since it's buried in another thread, I figured I'd re-post it as its own topic. I went to the Wynn last month and played there three days. Here are some comments:

Highlights:

- 9 handed tables: I am not sure you'll find this elsewhere at a Las Vegas Poker room, but there are only 9 people at each table. I like this, because I think the games aren't excessively tight, but it also creates a lot more room.

- Good chairs: Everyone seems to love the chairs, as they are height adjustable, and very comfortable.

- Auto-shufflers - Every table is equipped with Shuffle Master automatic shuffling machines. In addition to 9 handed action, this makes gameplay pretty quick - at least compared to a 10 person table with a slow shuffling dealer.

- Attentive Cocktails Waitresses - While I didn't get drinks myself, the cocktail waitresses came around frequently.

- Dealers - I did not run up against any incompetent dealers at all. They were definitely the best of any room I played at. Some were very personable, others were not, but I'll take competent dealers any day.

- Ambience - I love the decor of the room. It's probably just because I like red things, and as a result the Wynn colors, but I like the wood paneling and the red carpet. Some people have called it "old-fashioned" but I thought it was really nice. I didn't feel uncomfortable wearing shorts.

The one shortfall that some of you may not like is that the players did seem to be pretty good. There were some fishy players who would come in with $200 and then blow it in 10 minutes, but not too many. I also played during the day, though, so at night it might be more fishy.

Also, in case you are curious, I played 1-3 No Limit. That's right 1-3, NOT 1-2. They apparently switch to 1-3 to stimulate action, though none of the tables I played at were action heavy. They also have $3 chips, which tend to confuse people, but I got used to them.

I think the thing keeping the action low here, is that there's no maximum buy in. In fact, there's an old guy (70s, probably) who sits at 1-3 or 2-5 NL, wearing a cowboy gettup (hat, bandana around the neck, vest), with at least a thousand dollars in front of him. He doesn't play in a crazy manner. I guess he likes the large chip stacks in front of him to compliment his young girlfriend.

All in all, it was fun playing there.

I also like playing at the Wynn, but I did find that there was some very decent players. I usually play on weekend days, so most everyone is sober and attentive. Weekend nights are usually a different story. I play limit, so I enjoy the fact that 4/8 is their lowest spread. If someone wants to come in and play "just to try it" or "It's easy, I saw it on TV", they may find themselves short-stacked in some big pots. I've been halfway successful with blowing a few players off their hands for a donk raise on the river.

I played at the Wynn a couple weeks ago. I liked the 1-3 no limit format, and the 9-handed tables. If nothing else, the 9-handed game makes for a little more room at the table. It also got down to 6 and 7-handed a few times, and I think I that gives me a little more of an edge because I normally play 6-handed online. The chairs were nice - especially after I realized that you can adjust the height. Smile

I started playing at around 5:00pm on a weekday. The game started out pretty good, and then one by one the locals started sitting down and the game toughened up considerably. At one point there were 4 Las Vegans and 2 tourists at the table.

bought in for $150 and had another $150 in my pocket. The no max buy-in really wasn't much of a factor. I think the most somebody sat down with was $500. Most sat down with $100-$300 in front of them.

after bootcamp I am going to visit the Wynn (and a few others) on my way to California.

No max buy-in NL games are you friend, especially games with bullies. My buddy played in the $10-20 NL game at Bellagio with $2k and left with $15k because of it. Just pure ATM action

When I played at the Wynn, I bought in for $200. As the other poster said, the lack of a maximum buy in really made no difference in the games I played in. Most people bought in for somewhere between $100 and $200.

There was an older guy who had a huge amount of chips on the table, probably over $1000, but I think he was using it for show (he also was dressed as a cowboy). While he might have enjoyed people gawking at his stack from the rail, he did not use the stack to intimidate or be aggressive. He did call a straddle once or twice, for no apparent reason. I did play 1-3 on the same table as him, but the other two times I was playing at the Wynn, he was playing 2-5 instead.

I don't think you need to worry about the lack of a maximium buy in, at least if you are going to play 1-3 No Limit. Since there is a 2-5 game always going on as well, I am guessing most higher limit players would do that, instead of 1-3.

If anything, the lack of a maximum probably causes the play to be tighter, with less action. There was definitely less action at the Wynn tables than the other casinos I played at.

Anyone else have experience at the Wynn? My uncle is in Vegas right now and hes staying at Bellagio but I talked to him the morning and she said he'd give me an update after he plays at the Wynn today. I'm going out there in May.

We're heading to Vegas again soon, hopefully we'll have a chance to play some cards at the Wynn.

After playing at the wynn poker room this weekend, i can tell you one thing. This room is a rock garden compared to other rooms. Why i dont know, but the 15/30 at the wynn was a MUCH tougher game than the 15/30-20/40 at the mirage or bellagio. The room itself was nice, but the games were not as good.
