| I suffer from general anxiety and i also drink a lot of coffee. I am pretty new to live poker so I fumble my chips all of the time. I still am confident because I know that I am smarter then anyone else at the table. So what I am wondering is if it is more profitable for me to have this shaky nervous appearence or do I need to look like everyone else by appearing more confident and being able to handle my chips like a pro. When I first started playing I was scared because all of the people I play against are always shuffling their chips and all that. Then I realized none of them know how to play as well as I do. So do you think that I need to practice handling my chips or should I just keep on studying and doing what I'm doing? It can be embarrassing when I am stacking up all of my chips and I keep knocking over the already stacked ones. .. lol...Maybe all that will come with time. |

It will come with time. Ive just started going to the casino, they play tournaments and for the early stages you have to do your own dealing and I was absolutely appaling. I was feeling a bit insecure around all the vets who can do all sorts of chip tricks and deal fast and efficiently, whereas I fumble and drop the cards a lot. In the end though i think i outplayed a lot of the vets, and taking someones whole stack gets me feeling much better
It can work to your advantage, if people think you are an amateur they may think your a weak player too, which is imo the perfect image to display. You dont want people to be scared of playing against you.
As long as youve got a good poker face you'll be sowted.
As time progresses you will gain a better feel for things and chip handling will improve no end. |

as long as you yer hands are shaking everytime no one knows what's goin on. plus you could play it off as kind a psychotic twitch, ya know.
or you could just a prescription for xanax and fix it all. you'd be one cool ass cucumber then. |

As long as you are consistent, don't worry about it. The 'classic' poker face is not for everyone. Look at Gus or Daniel Negreanu, they're laughing and making some pretty weird faces, doesn't mean it's a tell.
Knocking over chips might be embarassing, but look at it this way: everyone thinks you're a noob, they give you no respect. That can be very profitable at a poker table. Finally, don't worry about chip tricks, in my experience chip tricks (as well as sunglasses/hats/hoods, etc) are generally a sign of someone that watches a lot of TV poker. These guys generally get crushed in cash games. Just my 2 cents. |

| I reckon that as long as your nervousness is genuine, you'll be fine. As soon as you have to start faking it, then it might become a tell to the more perceptive players. The less you fake anything, the less other people will be able to read you. |

| There is a difference between acting shacking and un-construable shacking... I do a bit of acting myself once in awhile... I have been playing poker long enough to control myself in live games to breath regularly and keep my buddy in a relax state... if you can keep the body in a relaxed state you are there because it takes the mind to stay in a relaxed state for the rest of the body to... if you can control your actions and thoughts in a relaxed manner then tells will be much harder to pick up on... if you are relaxed when battening a monster and relaxed when betting absolute shit then how am i going to tell what you have by your body language alone? I probably might be able to find something real small after many hours of play but I’ll have to look for betting patterns and such rather then a physical tell... |

No no no, your nervousness is an ADVANTAGE especially if you know you are better than them!
Think of how theyre seeing you. Fumbly, unsure of yourself, Hey! This guy knows NOTHING! This is awesome for you. You genuinely look terrified of everything, but you're better than the table. This is the perfect wolf in sheeps clothing. |
