Well, as any of you who have read any of my posts probably know I have been a big advocate of Ultimate Bet since starting my online poker playing back in January. Well, the last couple of weeks on UB has been just brutal for me. Tonight topped it off with me losing $56 in about 30 minutes. It's been like this for the past couple of weeks.

Anyway, I decided to take a break from UB and give Party Poker another try. I initially played at Party Poker the first week of February when I was still really green to online poker (not that I am much less green now, but anyway). I promptly lost the $50 that I deposited in Party Poker as well as the $25 in sign-up bonuses that I got. Not a really good experience and I hadn't been back since.

However, after joining this forum and reading about how much all of you like Party Poker I decided to give it another shot tonight. I figured it couldn't be any worse for me right now than my UB plight. So I deposited $50 in Party Poker just looking for a change of pace. I went to the $25 PL table (I intended to go into a NL table but when I realized it was PL I just stayed anyway. I obviously misclicked on the wrong table.) Within 30 minutes I was up $66! I got the hell outta Dodge up $10 for the night!

I'll probably ride out the Party Poker wave however long it may last. The way my luck has been going I'll probably give it all back tomorrow night! Gonna give UB a rest for a week or so though.

Anyway, I won one big hand on Party Poker and I wanted your feedback on how I played this hand. I thought I played it well but I'm always open to constructive criticism. Thanks!

Flopping the stone cold nuts with a strong limping hand isn't really that interesting. Picking up the set was nice because he's going to call you all the way down. Same with the guy(s) chasing the flush.

I'm curious where your money is going. The biggest factor in the profit/loss for one of my NLHE sessions usually comes down to a very small number of calls/laydowns (at least for me.) Are you making the right calls on marginal hands?

Fnord -

My losses over the past 2 weeks have come from getting just about every over-pair except AA cracked by something. Yesterday for example at UB before I switched over to PP my KK got beat by a guy who had AA. The other big hand I had was when I had QQ and I flopped a set. Got beat by the same guy who beat my KK with his AA when he turned over a 45s from UTG position to catch his straight. Both pots were well over $30/each.

My straights have been getting beaten by flushes. My flushes by boats. My boats by better boats. Been getting good cards just not good enough to win. Hard to lay down the hands that I've been getting beaten with. Very frustrating.

Now, with that all said, I know that I have made some questionable decisions on some hands as well. Most likely the result of tilt from getting the bigger hands busted. But all in all I would have a very hard time laying down the hands that I have been getting dealt no matter what frame of mind I was in.

As for that particular hand history, you are right. I was fortunate to have that much action on that hand. The one guy had a straight and flush draw, and the other guy had a set. Both very hard to lay down. So, yes, flopping the nuts is nice when you can get the action. That was one of the few times recently where I had the absolute nuts for the hand. I almost forgot what that felt like to have people betting in to you in that situation. Rolling Eyes

At the UB games the max buy-in is 100x BB instead of 50x BB at party, so those kind of hands will probably hit you harder there. Although from the sounds of it, you might be drawing dead or to tainted outs a little too often. Also, it's hard to compete with the Party Fish Bowl. If you'd like to post a hand history to the private forum I'd be happy to provide some feedback.

That's funny!

I think you're right. I have found myself with the 2nd best hand alot over this past 2 week period. So hard to lay those hands down because I have won big with those very hands in the past. I know it's a leak in my game and I think this past 2 weeks has made me see it better and now I have to become even more disciplined and learn to let those hands go when i know I'm probably beaten.

I had read a comparison of online sites a few days ago that rated the play of the players on UB at a significantly higher level than that of the players on Party Poker. I would tend to agree. i just like the layout and interface of UB so much and I do well there for the most part. Oh well, maybe I just need a hiatus from there for a week or so. And who knows, after playing Party for a week I may never go back! One can only hope!
