my game is too small and pissy

whenever i get to play a home game its just with my mates, a 4 way game. But my mates dont have much expeirience in real money games because there just arent many around in my small town for underage people.. so they generally wont play higher stakes than a $0.50 buyin tourney, if they play for any buyin at all. They are perfectly capable players, much tougher competition than i usually see on the net. So any ideas on how i could get them to play a bigger buyin, say.. a $20 tourney or a NL25 cash game?

Its still fun to play them for fun money, but to me its a bit pointless because i'm investing a few hours at the table for $1.50 pay off, or no pay at all. that assuming i win.

Homes games should just be about fun, not so much about making profit (although "Making Money is Fun"...). Sometimes its a good break, to experiment and not worry about the money. Just played a 5 handed game last night... for nada. (Broke ass friends) (Besides, if you take their money a few times they might not want to play anymore...) Wait for payday, then just suggest "why don't we do it for real this time?" Start small, $5 buyin or something.

I play for $5 buy-in tourneys with my friends. As was said, playing with friends should be for fun and to gain experience.

I try to have a home game with friends maybe once a week and it's anywhere from $1-10 buyin. We don't really care about the money and most of my friends have no money so it's usually closer to the $1 buyin. Laughing

Lucky for me theres another big group of guys around that like playing $10-40 buyins a lot. That's where I get all my money. Very Happy

i play a biweekly game with some coworkers for a ten dollar buy in, and we usually play two games each night. we more just play for fun, the money is there to keep it interesting and honest. most of what we play for is bragging rights and being able to talk something other than work the next monday. it's great, we have all gotten to know each other pretty well and that makes it even more interesting. the good thing is that we sometimes take the night off and most of us get together and play in a local MTT or go to the casino to test out our skills. i find that the home games make us much better players. it is good practice i guess, and when we all go to these tourneys or B & M's together, we get to compare players and it makes us more of a force, having that many eyes in a tourney. in the end, we just like to have fun and improve our game. who knows, maybe someday we will be rooting one us on at a major tournament.

For my tourney's, I payout the top 3 players, and there's usually only 5 of us. We also do two tourneys a night.

Do you payout more than first place and play multiple tourneys? If your friends know it more than an "all or nothing" game, maybe they'd be willing to invest more in it.

we usually have at least 8 people and up to 15 play in our game. we usually pay 1 2 and 3. this is mostly because there are some people who at their best only get third, and they have to get something sooner or later or they won't come back.

as for rebuys, we have them for the first three rounds, which comes out to an hour, twenty minutes a round. play is pretty serious and no one really relies on the rebuys and plays wrecklessly. even so, i have instilled an add on after the third round so that a player is not compelled to go all in on a marginal hand just because the rebuy period is almost up. i think we have only had like two add-ons since.
