Can anyone explain the following for me?
I see people calling garbage hands preflop and then hitting the board. For
example I had an AA in a 0.25/0.50 no limit game. Raised 3$ preflop and
have one caller. Well not bad. I keep betting as the board is full of
garbage with no straight/flush possibility. And I am killed on the
showdown by a two pair 8s and 4s. He had 84 and called me preflop. Then
hit one pair on flop and kept calling me all the way down. And this is not
a single case. These guys are sitting with huge stacks like 100$ where
maximum buy-in is 25$. So please explain, what kind of play it is. I also
saw myself that sometimes preflop I have a weak or marginal hand like A7
offsuit and it makes nut flush on the river. But I usually fold this hand
to a bigger raise preflop because it would be to expensive to call with
such a little chance to win big. Can anyone help me with your own
experience and advice?

God bless them. They've been very good to my bankroll, if even fustrating some days (like today.)
The reason they accumulate big stacks is variance. When you catch up late on the river or turn, you're going to pull down a big pot. Get lucky a couple times and catch a legit hand with a fustrated player tilting and suddenly you have a $75-$100 stack. The catch is that if they keep playing that way, they'll be back down to $25 or bust soon enough, so hang around and cash in on someone else's misery. Most of the time, these player bust out pretty quick anyway and never get very far.
Don't sweat folding an unlikey nut to a sizable pre-flop bet. Happens all the time. Big difference between having the best hand and knowing you have the best hand. Figure out how they're playing the pre-flop, adjust your pre-flop game to capitalize and be patient.
Finally, how much are you betting after the flop? Are you letting call stations draw too cheap? |

Nice saying.
I know. As a beginner I am still making many mistakes that allows making a profit of me even for the weakest players. Also I admit that sometimes I am too frightened to make a bigger bet preflop not knowing what kind of hand I am going to have. Still there is very much to learn. Thank you for the help again. |
