Was this the right play? I thought maybe I should have reraised him on the flop to either get him out or to gain information. His flop bet seemed to me like he was trying to buy the pot, so his check on the turn didnt worry me at all. Maybe I should have bet here. I think I was beeing to passive in this hand - what do you think? Or was I just acting like another idiot who cannot let go of his AA hand? Smile

Amen. Why would u call when u get as good a flop for AA as u can hope for? Re-raise and let him know u have some serious firepower.

AA UTG is such a pain. Sometimes I just push to avoid all the trouble. Laughing Your raise preflop is decent, but like what others have said, raise on the flop, if not push.

I agree with the raise on the flop but the other guy would have called with top pair and good kicker I think but yes AA UTG sucks sometimes.

I would have defiantly re-raised installed of called though on the flop.

I honestly would have limped then pushed all in if the BB raised

KQ would not have gotten away from that K high flop

ehhhhh... I just think it sucks that he paired his kicker. You didn't do anything terribly wrong.
But when he led out on the flop you have to consider what type of hands he may be holding. AK, KQ, KJ (pp set maybe). I think calling is actually not a bad play. Because usually the turn won't pair his kicker and he's there thinking that his pair of kings is still good. Where as if you reraise him hard on the flop he may think you have AK or something.
When that queen comes I think you should get ready for some bad news, as plenty of players like to play KQ hard. Maybe a bet on the turn to see how he likes his hand now. I would have called that river bet too... just because a lot of the time fishies are making this bet with a worse hand than AA.

Either way, unless you know your opponent well there's so many possibilities as to what a random fish could be holding. So just tought luck here i think....?

Reasons to raise the flop:

leading out here smacks of "I hit top pair". Most people will not try to bluff two people out of a pot when they weren't the first raiser. if he hit top pair here after calling a raise, he either has AK or is one of those people who play KQ/KJ like it's AK. Either way your re raise will likely be called.

If he actually is bluffing, he's not likely to go again on the turn after you raised pre flop then called, so this is probably all the $$ you'll get anyway, may as well win the hand now.

If he called with 56, you don't want to give a free card.

Finally, if the SB has a draw hand that flop may have hit it - 56, 67, 78 maybe 45 are getting huge odds and are drawing to beat you.
