Yeah I guess that makes sense. 9-13 outs vs a set + 4th nuts = yay.

I'm having fun with omaha. Defaulting to a fairly nitty game both pre & post which has worked well for me so far.

Preflop I'm still a little meh at judging hand strength.

Is my hand here preflop like a JTs, or more like a 97o in "NLHE strength"

In a good Omaha hand all 4 cards work with each other. No danglers. In this hand the 4s is kinda of a dangler since it only works with your Ace.

That's an incredibly succinct way of paraphrasing all the "omaha preflop guides" I read.

That said against terrible players I'm always playing set with AAxx, KKxx, QQxx and maybe JJxx because top set is so profitable against a newbie stack-off range.

no no no, you are repoting for value here and because you want to get it all in. position has nothing to do with how you want to proceed with this particular hand.

Obviously villain is representing a better hand, but your hand is too big to fold, so I would just try to get the money in on the flop. He may have a set (which is less likely given that there are only two aces and two nines left in the deck), in which case you're still drawing very live and your hand will contain some of the cards he needs to improve, or he may be semi-bluffing with something like J-T-Ks-xs, in which case you're a heavy favorite. All things considered, I think you're justified in getting all the money in.

I'm finding that there are some players who have absolutely no clue how to play this game and are capable of having as little as 8-9-x-x with no straight or flush draw in this type of spot, which should also incline you towards reraising with the intention of getting all-in.

Edit: Another perspective that occurred to me after making this post is this: your hand is big enough to where you're correct in going to the river and then paying off any set for all the money anyways. However, if you just call, and make your flush, you won't be able to get the money in with the best hand. If he has a set, he will always be getting the money in the pot when he has the best hand, and never when you have the best hand. If he is semi-bluffing with a big (albeit inferior) draw, there is the possibility that he simply gives up and tries to make his hand if you call when he would've put all his money in on the flop had you reraised, so again the play is to reraise. Plus, since he is likely semi-bluffing with a non-nut draw when he is, or will frequently make his hand with a card that completes your flush, he will probably play cautiously even when he makes his hand, which also argues against calling.
