up $16.75 tonight over 298 hands. Stats show that I've tightened up a lot in early positions , but still wide range in position and stealing like crazy. |

Could you do me a favour and post a graph with the following spec:
all 10nl
JUST winnings
800px wide so i can take it all in
want to see if those swings are converging. If you find this wide range is working then fine, but let's try and establish that. |

fack ME... that literally looks like bart simpson's head. Look at that big inverted spike at about 11k!
must have been a sudden rush of AA getting wins and losses!
i've had a ROUUUUGH few days man. I'm up but MAN the effort. Played 2.5k hands 5-6 tabling and each time plummetted initially, only to then spend 3 hours craaawling back up. Started to need my own advice, was tilting proper, you know when you're shaking, foot keeps tapping, eyes darting, really hot. So was opening a wider range, just like FOR THE LOVE OF GOD can i HIT something!?
Tried some new techniques tonight to SHIT effect. See a paired board and call their cbet, then raise the turn repping the set. DIDN'T WORK! lost about 20bb.
Anyways, this is your op not mine... i should see you play and compare notes. My thing lately has been disguising my good hands, i used to just try to get the money in. Now i check... think about it... call... check (please bet, please bet), then just shove. Often the shove looks like a bluff or something. Often they don't call but when they do it's +buy-in time. So maybe try that out. I'm checking all over the place these days coz no poopyhead is calling my bets... oh unless i'm bluffing! then they LOVE to call with bot pair. F'sake.
I shall do my graph in my op soon. Pop by. |

I managed to get the silver star last month solely because of the UK promotion. The main benefit is that i'm now clocking up fpps 50% faster and should hopefully clear the 1000fpp silver star Bonus this month (about 806 at the moment) and then will aim to clock up the extra 500 for the 8$ Bonus if not , hopefully it will still be available next month.
Last night , what a heater, and what a massive heater it would have been if my bloody AA's had held up.Actually losing money on them this month.Finished with a 500 ish card session on a bankroll of $403.73 and 809 fpps. Was up 15$ in my first 15 hands which makes a change from the night before all in defeat on the first hand. |

ah, keef. Let me know how that cash Bonus thing goes, i wouldn't mind cashing my points for that. Otherwise there's just no point in having my silly silver star.
Well done on the wins, how you feeling?
I think from what i've seen you can't let go of pocket over pairs. Specially them aces. Keep showing those ace hands. Like, if there's drawy broadways and you have AA and face massive resistance, they prolly hit their straight/two pair. Maybe just see the turn before shoving. Or slow play 'em. I HATE giving that advice coz it took me ages to stop slow playing aces, but thing is... if you fast play them, you get it 'all in regardless' (often being blind to sets, 2 pairs or straights etc.) or you fold the other guy out and get no value. |

made a complete balls up on this hand. Villain was a 65/30 and I think I should just have called and let him barrel again , if he didn't then make a weak bet to get him to call/push and then shove the river

When playing heads up reads are pretty important, but I'll give my 2c anyway as if I'm playing an unknown:
H1: c/r flop, lead turn/priced to call a shove probably if he's got JT/QT/AQ/AK or something like that in his range. He does NOT ONLY have AK here.
H2: What a strange spot...I probably just call, if he's got a stupid FD you want him to hit it, then value town him. Either way you probably won't gain more or less by calling or raising.
Edit: H1 |

AQ hand:
I would check call the turn here, if it's a 3bet pot that you're calling, TPTK isn't great to stack off with. Read dependent. I'd put QQ/JJ right in his range on the turn and fold.
Thing is, if you bet strong onto a flop in a hot pot, they're going to figure you have TPTK. So when they raise, and it's an amount that looks like they WANT you to call, it is NOT top pair good kicker or a draw most of the time.
A9s hand:
You make DAMN sure you pause for AGES on that turn call. Click on the more time button, then call... pause on the river again before checking. As it happens, he bet a nice amount anyway.
1st AK hand:
Yeah, he could have had QQ etc. so i would prolly want to pot control here too. But i would bet SOMEthing on the river, fold to a shove. Probably a small amount to get value. Likely he could have A6 or AQ here if he's calling, lol... i forgot what he had and yes, A4s. Idiots call 3bets with ANY ace here. Happens a LOT.
QJ hand:
Dude, how could you not put AK right in his range here. Just call the turn, pot control. Get that AK in his range. Hope you hit a boat on the river. No way would i be re-raising that turn. I'd be like: YOU sir have AK in your hand. Then i'd be check calling the river.
2nd AK hand:
Mother of CHRIST. Flop, good work on the check. When he bets... you wait FOR EVER and then call. I'f you'd have done this you'd be $6 richer now i fancy |

time for a progress check I think.
these were my first 10K stats at 10NL and are virtually all of may
By keith_mm at 2009-04-24
and these are my June stats where I had a short break at the stat and was thinking over the advice I was given.
By keith_mm at 2009-06-13
several surprising things stand out ......
I'm stealing more ....which I didn't intentionally try to do.
my early position play has tightened up a lot ....which was an aim.
not limping as much in the blinds and playing tighter. I'm not sure whether the $ results show that I'm only playing top end hands out of the blinds now. If that is the case should I be 3 betting them more to get the VPIP/pfr more into line. small/med PP i generally call for set value. Alternatively , the poorer hands tend to be BvB when I'm stealing with virtually ATC (shhh don't tell anyone) and shutting down when I miss or am 3 bet
finally the graph for june so far.

Last night ended up being a long night , but a profitable one.I gave my first sweat session to Kolonel and he watched me play. I had a good session and was explaining my bets to him and managed to make some borderline but correct folds which pleased me . Normally they would have cost me a lot more money.
I played 433 hands in total for a $30.20 profit and got into some great spots for Rob to see how to play. fpps are around the 975 mark so could soon cash out the 16$ Bonus.

Another thing that I discussed with rob was stealing and how it varies at the levels and against different players. I was stealing regularly on 2 of 3 of my tables but the others I had a station sat on my right and it was quite useful to show a different strategy depending on the type of player acting after you .
I have said that i steal with ATC against the right opponents

Yes with tight players in the blinds is pretty easy just to steal with ATC, until they adjust. Some villains just won't adjust at all. Versus looser people in the blinds you can still steal but just pick hands that are easier to play post flop/have more equity.
I think spoonitnow worked out he math to raise ATC in LP or SB. This assumes ur 0EV postflop.
If you have SB+BB VPIPs equalling less than 15 then its breakeven to raise ATC on the BU.
30 VPIP when ur in SB vs BB
Total 10vpip when in CO vs BU, SB and BB. |

Good Luck with the operation. You look well on your way to success.
Also, thank you for the chat at the tables today. It convinced me to actually register instead of just lurking. |

yep .....erm blind stealing off someone who has read that you'll blind steal with ATC gets a bit tricky. In other words my blind stealing was tamed down a hell of a lot on that table. I have noticed that I seem do do a lot better when I'm playing against full stacks that a table of half stacks. Latter turns into a game of chicken and the extremely volatile stats that i was posting last month.
Bank roll finished at 431.88 and 1010 fpps so can now take the 16$ Bonus.played the FTR 200 on stars. Knocked out rilla with a rivered set and sucked out on stacks a couple of times. Went out on the button as the short stack but it was 3.30 am and i was knackered after the sweat night before and a days work so ended up shoving and stacking my chips neatly in front of Stacks (again doh!!!). |

I have actually improved my blind stealing after our session the other night. Played a couple of SnG tight early, and picked up more than i normally would with nothing.
Thanks again Keith.

Getting involved and having your hand histories ripped to shreds by the better players makes a hell of a difference to your play. Without it you're just doomed to continue making the same mistakes. I've still got lots to learn and if you want to do some mutual sweat sessions hopefully we can learn off each other....even if its only how other people play. |

I'm seriously starting to hate AA now . Played 426 hands in the sesion for a net loss of $11.15 ( it was -$26 at one stage) and roll stands at $420.13 and 1029.5 fpps . It just seemed a bad night tables wise , lots of stations and 3 betters and I kept missing or if I hit they hit better.
villain was 53/8/1 and i tried the .30 raise as 40 i seem to get it folded round at UTG. he'd still have called though . I was putting him on straight draw/flush draw/AK/AQ/AJ type hands

honestly can't remember. found the hand in my HEM and villains stats were 29/8/4 and 6.7% 3bet%.
I couldn't have thought that the flop hit him, didnt want to bet and be raised so either check call or check raise. Tried representing a big Ace on turn. River bet was probably a blocking bet to get value out of smaller PP and would have folded to a raise. Thought my hand had some showdown value and checking the river would probably have faced a 5$ bet and had to fold. |

"Tried representing a big Ace on turn"
so you were turning your hand into a bluff?
Why not 4bet pre? His 3bet size just says he sucks. |

| played just over 700 hands last night and finished down 13$ with BR now at $407.08 and 1095 fpps. didnt really get into any big hands just lost or folded lots of smaller ones. Had my obligatory losing AA against QQ all in preflop just cant wait till they start winning 80% . Wonderland watched for a short time , and my resuslts could have been a lot worse , folded some 'stealing' hands just on a feel without even trying to steal and villain showed AA each time. |

Just finished a swingy session .....was up 15 $ on one table early on and Monsieur chat came and sat on my left , had to steal some of his blinds naturally and then managed to spew all that 15 off bluffing AK against TT ick ...should have known better. Had been reading Jason's blog earlier as well where he said to beat 10 NL you don't have to bluff .
this put me back in negative territory for the night after having been up a buyin. Regrouped , rammed the not bluffing into my brain and went on a massive heater. Finished with Roll on 450.63 and then cashged in 1000fpp for 16$ Bonus to leave me on $466.63 and 143.5 fpps.played 769 hands for a profit of $ 43.55.
This month has also been good with net profit of $117.55 in 8142 hands to give a bb/100 of 14.44 and 44.6 steal % |

some of the action from last night.....this was me being a complete spewy spewtard and is memorable for reminding me of the BC post about not being able to make them fold at the micros. Also interesting is that he went all in with a medium over pair against a SB 3bettor. Whats my likely range got to be JJ+ AK bearing in mind he's either seen me raising as a steal or folding.Semibluff from me in a way as there was still a card to come.

this I think I played badly and was probably a bit of get some value out of him on the river or he'll fold if he missed his flush draw....check raise on the river I'm thinking set , or flush . Should have checked behind on the river. One thing Ive noticed a lot on 10 NL is people slow playing there sets against me. checking behind has saved me a lot on dangerous boards or where someone has just called down all the way OOP.

been busy workwise this weekend so limited sessions on friday and saturday night. Friday was frustrating. lost a stack with turned set losing to a slowplayed flopped set and another stack with KK<66 .
Saturday was only a short session as well. 172 hands for a $13.40 profit. Suprise suprise .....AA actually won a half stack having got it all in PREflop against AQs. Other big winner was this ...and was it the worst played AA ever. All the time I was offered odds to stay in the hand.

19/6: AKo hand
PF: Ok - AK ahead of his likely range. SPR good for TPTK type hand.
Flop: Bet is too big. if he's folding, he's folding to a 1/2 PSB or smaller. $1 is fine. I'd read your hand to want a fold so as villain I wouldn't expect you to have a made overpair. If you do have an ovepair, what's the hurry in getting the money in? WA/WB should apply.
Turn: Spew. Which hand in your range completed? 87? Really? When he calls the big flop bet he's not going away. You are semi-bluffing yes (6 outs) but where is your fold equity?
19/6: AJo
PF: I normally steal smaller - SSNLHE suggests the bigger steal size if up against an opponent calling too much pre-flop. If he's fit-or-fold after the flop it's a bigger pot going down to cbets, if he's calling station post it's more streets of value from his second-best hands. No reads tho?
Flop: Fine. Good size considering flop texture.
Turn: Too small turn bet. I'd go for $2 or PSB. Your hand just lost a lot of relative hand strength, but the As makes a second barrel mandatory. If your opponent is not folding turn to a bet he is likely also calling a reasonable river bet - if you make the bigger bet the river bet can gracefully be an all-in when you hit your flush, or if you are thus inclined - if the J or A should hit and you think you're ahead (though I'd possibly check behind those hands also.) A big turn bet both maximises your fold equity from hands that beat you (two pair and set) and gives you best implied odds against hands that currently beat you (made flushes and sets) and gives you best value from hands that you beat (KsJx, other Ks hands)
River: Check behind is good. You're not getting value from worse and you're not folding out better. Not with this bet size at least. Even then I don't think a shove is better EV than a check behind. Folding to his small raise is also good.
19/6: TT
PF: Not comfortable. Happy to stack off against shortie. Not getting set odds. OOP. Do you think you can profitably steal?
Flop: Perfect flop - fully committed. Bet size good.
Turn: Good.
19/6: KQo
PF: Fine
Flop: cbet could be smaller. We are looking for calls from weaker and the flop is semi-dry. When min-raised I think I'll flat. Typically min-raise means this player will 99% of the time see a showdown. People generally don't expect to elicit folds when they min-raise. Ignoring the raise size, is he happy to get into a raise war on the flop with JT or a single pair? His solid range is pretty much sets and two pair. 5 combos of sets and 4 combos of KQ. 6 combos each of K2 and Q2 I don't really count as solid seeing as I normally don't put K2 or Q2 in preflop calling ranges. He might decide to spew with AK or AA, but why? Against a decent player I would tend to not commit on the flop but just flat. Once we raise and he shoves we do have to call though. A good player could have JT in his range and a bad player could have Q2. A range of KK/QQ/22/JT has enough equity that I'd prefer to flat and see a turn. I don't think I could profitably get all-in on the flop against that range. Against the wide range of a bad player that includes AK, K2 and Q2 getting the money in on the flop is probably best.
22/6: 98s
PF: Fine
Flop: Fine. Could maybe have raised smaller but not below $6. With his overbet he wants to get the money in in a hurry and it's always tricky to know how to bet to make sure he stays with his plan. I think the general obvious commitment raise here that "accidentally" leaves money behind is a good play. Especially good if the move is insta as it keeps his adrenaline up and prompts him to act quickly.
22/6: 87o
Fine. |

I think this basically sums up the troubles I'm having with big pocket pairs . By trying to get the money in early I'm folding out the hands I'm beating and not winning much off them as a result and doing the work for the pairs that have flopped their sets.
10NL second 10k hands are now posted in the BC . SUnday night turned into a manic session. normally average 20-30 fpps per session. clocked up 60 fpps with other players going crazy against each other.

| It can be tough. How many tables do you play? Getting good reads is important to determine which players will play based on your raise and then help figure out when you're ahead and should be extracting value or when you may be behind and should try to get to a cheap showdown or simply fold. |

AKo:
PF: Fine
Flop: Fine, I guess. Your arguments for betting big (if you bet) include a somewhat wet flop and it being multiway. Of course any flop with two of one suit is somewhat wet, but we have to realistically ask how much of our opponents' ranges include hands like T8s. In this case this is probably somewhat borderline. Micro players don't seem to judge low/medium suited connectors over random unsuited broadways. There is a flush draw out there so it does feel like a bet is necessary, but while SPR looks good for top pair, it really isn't when the flop is multiway - you need a smaller SPR on multway flops. Your TPTK is up against the best of 3 other hands - not a single opponents hand. You still get value from worse aces and sometimes hands that have decent equity against you will fold or call incorrectly so betting seems solid.
Turn: Turn changes nothing in terms of relative hand strength, but the guy did call the flop. I wouldn't necessarily hate a check behind. I don't think pot control is the wrong impulse in this situation and it could trump giving a free card. If you bet you don't expect to fold out any better hands, so you have to be expecting value from worse. Which worse hands will call here? Random aces? I'm not sure there's much value here from worse hands. Bet size if you do bet - I guess you could do $3 on the turn and the rest of the river and hope for the weak aces to come along. Or slightly less. Probably not $2 though. Check-raise here is kind of the typical TPTK is no longer good enough raise. You need to be good about 20% of the time for calling to be mandatory. AA is 1 combo, 99 is 3 combos, 77 is one combo. 97 is 6 combos. A7 is 4 combos. A9 is 6 combos. T8 is 16 combos (but Td8d is only one). Ax is 78 combos. How often has each of these sub ranges arrived on this turn? How often do they check-raise? If you had any reads on the opponent that suggested he wouldn't checkraise with T8 or Ax it could be a fold. I think the key is that he doesn't expect you to fold. When he doesn't expect (or want) you to fold - TPTK is no good. Folding would probably be fine.
KK:
PF: Fine
Flop: He check-raises small. I find it worth keeping in mind that min-raises are 99% of the time a sign of commitment. At least unless an opponent has min-raised as a bluff before and you have a note. I probably flat here. We have to consider sets significant in his range. He wants you to call.
Turn: If the opponent is a nit I might bluff at this card. I'd almost prefer any other spade though. If it was an otherwise unthreatening spade completing the flush I could wait a bit and bet $4 (if flatted) or all-in (as played). With the ace, however, it is too likely my opponent will read my hand as an AK/AQ type hand and then he would only fold if he couldn't beat that type of hand. As played checking through is fine.
River: I just fold here. If he doesn't have the full house he has a flush or an ace. He's betting for value - he wants you to call. Time to disappoint him.
AA:
PF: Fine
Flop: Hmm, you want to look as if you're bluffing? You're committed and stacking off regardless, but do you think this line gets the maximum value from hands that you beat?
AQo:
PF: Ok, you treat the min-raise as a limp and look to set up a good SPR for your hand. Not an unreasonable idea, but I think the numbers don't add up. If the PFR calls your SPR is less than 2 - that's almost putting in too much money preflop before your hand is made and almost commits you preflop even if you miss. Maybe a raise to $0.60 works a bit better creating a pot of $1.45 with $4.4 behind and an SPR of 3. If the cold caller is your only customer you have an SPR of 8 - too big to commit with TPTK even if you hit. Against him the $0.60 raise gives an SPR around 13 which makes it easier for you to steal post flop, which is likely where the most value can be gained from that opponent. Especially since you have position.
Flop: As played you are committed and calling is the only thing.
AKs:
PF: Fine
Flop: Dry flop cbet can be smaller like 1/2 PSB. Can argue to increase bet size due to it being multiway, but with just 3 players I'd probably still stick to $0.70 to keep more weaker hands calling.
Turn: I think you may have leveled yourself here. I think you think that you discount a $2 bet down to $1.90 to make it look less threatening and encourage calls. But I think the opponent instead spots weakness and pounces on it. Read your own hand. What is in your range here? Maybe 77-KK. Any ragged ace could think that it's raising here for value? Sets are certainly in the villains range, but two pair? Which two pair? 63? 96? A9? Ok, maybe A9 (or even A6 or A3), but you have one of the aces so that's some fewer combinations of that again. I'm not sure $1.90 is the right bet size. I might favour $2.20 or even $2.50. It does show apparent strength and if called I would worry about two pair - but if raised I'd be able to feel good about folding. And I think those are both better bet sizes for bluffing next time I end up here with KdQd. |

AA : preflop was kinda what threw me. went for the 1.90 to try and price out smaller pocket pairs by destroying their set odds.
AQ should have stuck his stats in. he was a 41/18 over 19 hands so I just didnt believe he had a premium hand.
AK : villain was 24/7 over 366 hands. when i saw the shove i was thinking the A9 or 99
For Jason ....I play 3 tables |

posted my june 10K stats in begfinners circle and have had a bitof an AHA moment . found a/the problem but digfficulty is now interpreting how to solve it . This has resulted from trying to fix an earlier problem of losing a lot of value to check raises on the river. The solution I was using has caused me to lose value so I'm going to have to try and find a happy balance.
| Quote: | I've been thinking about this a lot and finally managed to work it out (I think). I was running into lots of check raises on the with people slow playing monsters. Net effect has been to transfer red line winnings (they fold to river bet) to show down winnings.
Looking at the graph though, my win rate seems to have slowed by doing this as I'm not getting any river value from
: Ax missed draws who think that A high may still be good
: bottom pair hands when my draws miss. Checking behind just gives them a showdown win instead of having to make a decision as to whether their second/bottom pair is good or even high cards as they missed their draw too.
: From my top pair hands where I protecting myself against two pair and sets.
the advantages are people slow playing monsters don't get to check raise me and put me to a decisionto fold or call that extra river bet. There do seem to be an awful lot of people slow playing their monsters lately and checking behind on the river has shown me this but for every time I think I did the right thing checking behind there I end up thinking that I'd probably have won the hand if i'd bet the river as they'd have folded the air /bottom pair type hands.
This is something I'm going to have to work on to try and figure out who to check behind and who to bluff on the river having shown aggression throughout the hand.

Nightmare hands:
Hand 1 KQo: Without stats / reads that villain is 3betting wide I think I fold to avoid situations exactly like this. As played I'm folding turn all day long.
Hand 2 KK: Nh.
Hand 3 AQo: Personally I bet out on the flop, as I don't like giving away a free card here, I really don't want xhxh chasing for free. As played I think I fold and then punch myself.
Hand 4 TT: I don't mind floating here (although floating OOP generally sucks). I think on the turn, without reads, we have to give villain credit for a Jack or an overpair. I mean do you really want to call a shove on the river? I don't quite see what you're hoping for OOP in this hand.
Hand 5 TT: Minraising this flop sucks imo, so many of his potential holdings are either re-raising or just flat. Either raise properly if you think you can get him off his hand or flat his cbet and hope for a nice turn scarecard to barrel. Personally I've found the second of these more profitable at 10nl.
Hand 6 QQ: Gah I hate hate hate that turn. I'm pretty stuck here myself. On the one hand I totally understand why you're slowing down the betting, but the problem is I think we're leaving ourselves in a tought spot when he calls, especially OOP. Then again, checking blows hard, so maybe we have to b/f but bet more, maybe 2.80. Probably one for someone with more experience.
Hand 7 KK: Nh imo.
Hand 7 KTs: Hrm, think I do the same but don't know if this is right. Another one for Erpel |

it was a highly frustrating night all round : juiceforfish was a 38/31 with 30% 3bet TT vs J6 so I just wasn't beleiving him. These were just some of the assorted lowlights.
Spent a bit of time today (couple of hours actually) going through my database against the guy I have the most number of hands on. Wow did this open my eyes up to his game much more than actually playing with him. Patterns in his play are obvious and stand out a mile from the hands he did take to showdown so that I can start top infer what hes got/had when hes playing. This is my updated read on him over 900 hands from all his show downs.I regularly get him on one or two tables and he multitables a lot playing 18/8. If any one else is interested in doing some in depth read swaps so we can get some better reads on players pm me.

these were two consecutive hands against a 62/13/3.8 fish who had been betting and raising with air and going to showdown.

Can you elaborte on that ....at the moment with the way the last two nights have gone I'm just not sure whats what anymore. Was I getting lucky with my hands before or have I just been unlucky to miss all my big draws now.
what was more frustrating though
2 AA 3 bet and didn't see flop on one and a shortie went all in on the other .net profit 2$.
3 KK's 1 raise to 4bb and 2 3bets and didnt see a flop for net $1.30.
3 QQ raise 2 to 4bb and 3bet 1 and didnt see a flop for net $.85
1 JJ 3bet to $1.20 and didnt see flop for $.45 |

Take a break dude. It looks to me like you're tilting understandably and trying to push margins that aren't there to be pushed. When you don't make money off of your big hands it can be tempting to try to push to make that money elsewhere.
There are so many money making spots at these stakes, but you sometimes have to let them come to you.
Take a couple of days off mate. |

went into IRC and was talking to Oskar , illfavor , seteccba and stacks about my hands with some useful feedback and would like to thank them for taking the time . Was playing 2 tabes at the same time . story of the night ........44 was dealt it 7 times in 343 hands .......finished down 10 cents which was a relief after the last two nights. Cleared 500 fpps so took the $8 silverstar Bonus whilst its available whihch conveniently gets the bankroll back up over 400$ ( just ) at $401.73.

H1- Shove turn {acronym Renton hates}
H3- Bet a little harder, but the bluff is fine imo.
H4- Raise more pre. Again, you need to isolate larger to thin the field. You're never ahead when you're raised on the river unfortunately... |

and the best hand of the night (for me $ wise ) also against maxrusss. Question is ....should I have bet smaller on the river ? would a 3$ bet have induced him to shove? and if he only called would have squeezed a bit more value out of him .
